[question] Ripping Panther resources

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone's been playing around with ripping the bitmap resources off their Panther install discs.

I installed MacDrive5 on my PC, and extracted some of the Archive.*.gz files to my harddrive, then ran them thru Multiripper (3.0b). I got some bitmaps out of the archive (GIF/JPEG/PNG). I was wondering if anyone's had any further experiences they'd like to share.

Like, where do I find the GUI graphics - I was thinking it'd be a better way to develop a skin using the actual resources, rather than from someone's screenshots.

And just a note: You can extract/save resources from ThemeBuilder (that's how I made my nice sig buttons.. :))

I don't have a Mac - I'm PC only :) I assume ThemeBuilder's for Macs, right...

Yes it is, because it's about ripping Panther resources, not windows resources or anything else ;)

(*Cough* Note: I meant ThemePark not ThemeBuilder. And yes it's Mac OS only, how exactly would you "extract/save" the resources if you didn't have the system locally..? :blink:)

I have the install discs. I use MacDrive5 on my PC so that the PC can read the OSX file system. Then I use a ripper program called Multiripper to weed out what graphics I can from the various archives (they're on the CDs as is). It's not like ResHacker or anything - it's DOS, looks for format signatures inside files, extracts whatever it recognises...

I guess you could call this the shorter route than installing PearPC and OSX. I just extract stuff from what's on the CDs. Probably not as effective as installing OSX, I know, but there it is...
