[help]monitor Went Out

Hello thar fellow Aqua-Softians :bye:...I come to you in need again

So I was tooling around in PearPC when my LCD monitor which I've had for almost a year suddenly dimmed (so quickly it looked like it was being turned off) so I could barely see anything, not even my cursor

I've:

• checked the power cords/video out/in cord-dealies ( )
  
• auto-set the brightness/contrast/etc...the brightness is all the way up as usual and the contrast is normal
  

And no I don't have another monitor I could use, as I'm on a laptop right now...

What I'd like to know is...is my monitor fried for good? >.<

do you see something on your screen if you unplug the video cable (like no signal), if no try to put a strong light in front of it (when pluged again and computer started) and do you see something ??

If you see anything with the light in front of the screen, it's maybe the inverter of the screen who got dead...

You say you have your monitor for almost a year, isn't it under warranty (here in france, monitors have a 3 years warranty).

I can sort of make out the faint shape of a dialog box which I recognized as the 'no signal' message, so...yea.

And I'll see about the warranty later as I don't know how long it lasts/what is covered

swap cards or try the monitor on another computer. see if you can isolate the problem.

if it's the monitor, you just might have to send it back.

if the matter is really what i think you still can make it a video projector to watch your DVDs on a big screen... I'm actually looking for a monitor with the same problem as yours just to make one (and so i could watch the first trilogy of star wars on a 2 meter screen :woot: )

NEC is a great brand. I have the NEC LCD1712. I'd say I've had it for about a year now and have never had any problems with it. I like the Sony models too (they're pretty much the same price) but I went with the NEC in the end because it has a faster response time - 16 ms for NEC, 20 ms for Sony

Well, I managed to convince Gateway to send me another one in exchange for mine after an hour or so on the phone (no, I already tried that, no, I can't run that program because I can't see anything,...)
