[advice] My Collection Of Stuff.

Ok for the last half year i have been appyling for two jobs every friday, that is because the job center told me too.

I'm currently un-employed and had to apply for a job i have no chance of getting..

my advisor told me to "try and blag your way into the job and that your willing to learn.." to kinda put this in the covering letter...

Any way, I put a link to my DeviantART account on the covering letter. i've been using trials of photoshop on and off the past year or so.. and over the last few months i made a DA account and put my stuff up there...

through a few computer mess ups and windows re-installs i've been using photoshop a lot over the last 6 months...

i will say this... i like construtive critasim and tips advice.

i hate stuff like "your work is s**t, it's just layer blendings and stuff. i could do it!"

true some of my stuff is layers blending into each other.. and i had alot of negative stuff thrown at me from one site.

I'm also dyslexic which will explain the spelling mistakes.. so dont say where you from.

well i had help at school and college.. :smartass: but long words confuss me.. ie ones over five letters

You are very talented in the photo manip area. I really like some of your stuff and you are a rare find on DA (not many photo manip people left)

People who want to hire for design jobs look for someone who can make interesting and precise graphics (this guy does graphic design: bccb)

Hey, first of all, its definantly freaky. I'm sure that's apparent to everyone whose seen your work. Its an interesting gallery on DA, but i just wonder what kind of jobs you're applying for. I see your work on the cover of heavy metal bands, not like website design or catalogs or anything. Maybe a little bit more about what's going on at the jobs or what is being asked of you might help out everybody. I'm finding out as a designer that photo manipulation is a tough field because more and more people are finding just how easy it is with people just sitting down and figuring things out. The worst thing, i feel, an artist can do is limit themselves to strictly one thing. It'd be like dedicating yourself to doing only one thing for the rest of your life and nothing else. I'd explore other things in designing things or maybe apply what you have already to show how this could be used in something. I went from designing things for magazine companies to now doing webdesign and lately doing flash and video editing. I found out that people want to see different things that you're capable of and they want to see how things can be applied to things they currently have. I'm not trying to take you down or give it to ya straight, i like some of the stuff, its just where have you been applying and are you applying at the jobs that can fit what you make. Just some advice. Good luck with a job.

one thing.. that was damn hard to read... as it was all blocked togeather....

as i've never had a job before, i've been told i should try low first and aim higher when i have money coming in.

so basicly im going for jobs in shops and other non skilled based areas...

but this job i applyed for was more skilled. so i wanted advice and what not.

i am trying to do other things in image manip, like vectors but considering lake of money and tools its hard for me.

Ok heres what i got for you, consider this a thorough critique of your work.

In all, much of your work is very generic and lacking emotion. From what i can gather, you have this obsession with your views of women. Either that is your psyche coming through against women (im gonna assume that you had your heart broken and these images are in response to that)

Instead of focusing on the beauty in women, you are focusing on plastic virtues, ie womans obsession with how they look.

This is a great step in the right direction, but you need to convey your ideas and emotions a little clearer in that regard.

The moody dark tones are what are generic in the works. When an images is meant to depict a negative/hatred often an artist conveys that idea with dark tones. IMHO that is the cheap way out.

Your images have the potential to extrude a ton of emotion from the viewer, but when you depict this work as these dark moody, muddles images of abstraction, you are actually pushing the viewer outward.

This is not to say that your composition skills are nill, the shots themselves are great, but art is more than taking a cool shot.

Show me your emotion, show me you, show me feelings of despair in these images. Try avoiding dark overtones, work on symbolism a little bit and iconology goes a long way.

NOw maybe i am off the beaten path here and these are more photojournalistic images, as some of them seem more about the people that are in the pics than of your emotion coming through the pics.

If that is the case, than you are on the right track.

I've never had my heart broken.. i've never had a gf come to think of it..

and i just don't like maniping men... it makes sense if your me...

i dont try to convay emotion, i am really just trying out methods of imahe manip.

if i put all my emotion in to an image. it'll proberly be very dark indeed.

but mostly i love to make people happy. i have a "how gives a s**t" view on life.

ie if you dont like me, i dont care, it doesn't bother me either.

but if i can make people happy, it makes me happier than now.

i also make the images to releave anger and such.. makes me happy when the image looks how i want it to.
