Obvious courses of action: have you tried running an up-to-date virus scan and spyware scan? All of the major AV labels offer free on-line scanning. Ad-aware is a free download, as is Spybot Search and Destroy. Try running those first because slow systems are usually the result of spyware infestation and the hooker thing sounds like a virus to me.
