Pre-alphablended Mask Is Disgusting!

Hello.

I've extracted the pictures of Jaguar's UI elements into PSD files from EXTRAS.RSRC. Most images are In EXTRAS.RSRC contain an RGB picture, a Grayscale mask and a Clickmask (1bit) like this:

But this is where the problem starts. Look at the first column on the left, the "Disabled" glyph (like the third one) is already blended into the dark background. Thus when I converted it to Photoshop format, something

like this results:

It looks completely different from what appearing on the real user interface. But I've looked at the raw data of #pxm resources, yes this is REALLY what appears in the resource. How can I make it look better?

Oh by the way if anybody wants all the images just email me. I'll email them to you (16MB uncompressed.. around 7~8MB zipped) Or PM me.

Unfortunately, I don't think that you can get it the way it should be without remaking that particular image that you want. It is like the toolbar icons in windows explorer. They also have a black background, although not a 3 layer masked one, but there are some like that in windows too.

The problem is that the black basically is the transparent layer and there for it needs the other (the one with the white) as the masking layer and the last one, which is usually solid black as the underlying transparent layer. I hope what I am saying makes sense. It is quite confusing sometimes.

The best solution I have found to solve this problem that you have and manually remake the image that you need. You can do this for the button that needs to be the inactive one, by copying the active button and adding a transparency layer to it of just a little over 50%and putting it in it's place and adjusting what needs to be changed to make it look right. This is how I have been doing it.

Maybe someone else has a better option, if so let me know . I just wanted to give you my 2 cents
