Question

Hello, I am new to this board and am in awe of how close you can get win to look like osx (to the point where ever Apple is fooled!). I'm using Iceman's VS, skinned Phoenix, skinned QCD3, OB, ObjectDock, Yz shadow, Yz toolbar, and various icons (sorry, I'd give props, but I can't remembers where I got these skins /icons from - and you know who you are - thanks!) Anyway, I was hoping you could help me bring my XP closer to OSX. My question is:

Can Visual Styles be applied per application? I want to use the brushed VS for just phoenix and some other programs and use aqua for the rest (My Computer, various windows, display properties etc), as a real OSX would look. I tried using Windowblinds and was satisfied except for the iSkin for Phoneix that wasn't a very realistic brushed look. I know that there is a phoenix skin with the brushed look but it doesn't apply it to the title bar. Any suggestions?

Here's a pic of my current desktop. I especially like the QCD3 skin and Phoneix look now. The pic is big, I run 1600x1200.

I use Windowblind and I think this is the better option for do it.

If the iSkin for Phoenix that wasn't a realistic brushed look, use skin studio, create your own skin or modify some created (with author permision ;) ) and modify skin of you safari-browser (toolbar, use reshacker).

I use my own brushed and aqua skin: "soulless os x" and "soulless brushed" :P . I don't finish brushed skin but when finish it and could send you.

.....Anyway, I was hoping you could help me bring my XP closer to OSX.....

indeed a big res, i wish i had a big res like that.....

anyhow, its looking good.

suggestions:

For shadows, use WinFX2.0. I use the "darwin-mixed" theme. I like YZshadow but, I find WinFX to fit my needs... With WinFX you can make message windows and menus transparent plus more. This also includes shadowing of objectbar, which YZshadow doesnt shadow, if I remember correctly.

For shell, use WindowBlinds, for sure. I'm using smoke's "Jaguar-Aqua-Pilless." It is much more aqua-ish then any msstyle, just cuz of the button placement. Also, you can use WindowBlinds to skin only certian applications and what not, you can also specify what skin a certian application wears or not...

also, you know what i like to do, i go to http://www.spymac.com and i surf through the hundreds of screen snaps ppl post of their real mac desktops... its very fun. its also a good way to compare and get ideas on what to change on my desktop.... like font sizes and little things like that... yup.

good luck with your aqua-fying.

yeah,.. what he said...

but ehhm, whats the weather program?

Edit: OK HOLDUP,.. there something I don't understand.

See your phoenix browser,.. see the row that has the "address bar in it",..I mean the plane with the "back foreward" buttons, reload, home, "address bar" , etc,.. well that plane should have a separator line between it and the (empty) row below.

Your version is like the real OSX,.. but for the rest of us there is that line.

How did you get rid of the line?

Edit Edit:

Sorry my bad,.. for get the thing about the line... but eeehmm,.. whats the weather program?

My guess is that the weather program is CoolMon or Samurize

As for the Phoenix --> Safari mod: I just used the unskinned version WITHOUT borders. Went to Lynchknott (sp?) for that one.

Calendar/weather/cpu is Samurize. Can't remember where I got the Config, but the file is TGS-White Colors.ini and I downloaded the updated ExtendedWeather script to read from Weather.com (there was a link to this file somewhere on this board).

Yes, I was using WindowBlinds recently, but found that the VS was more visually appealing (ie My computer side bar) and fonts, and menus, and especially the Brushed look. I don't think you can get gradients in the title bar like in real OSX brushed in Windowblinds. Plus it ran MUCH faster than Windowblinds.

BTW, anyone having trouble running Java in Phoenix. Whenever I have Java enabled and a page calls for Java (ie. rolling text), my Samurize and ObjectDock flash on and off and slows the computer. It's very annoying. IE doesn't do this.

AND, is anyone having troubles with QCD3 just stopping with no reason? Once it stops in the middle of a playlist, it won't play again even if I press play. I have to close and reopen. Also, whenever I shut my computer down, Windows has trouble ending the program, even if I close QCD3 prior. Wierd. I guess looks aren't everything.

See this picture: Notice the very nice gradiant in the title bars. I don't believe Windowblinds can do this. And notice the My Computer side bar. Windowblinds doesn't do this either.
