[ann] Free Forum Hosting No Ads

I'm looking on making a forum, I want a company that does it for me and host it, (kinnda like Invision PowerBoard) but free, with no banner ad's, I don't care about pop-up's or text linnkage. I do care about it's looks... I would like the boards to look good and be custumizable. If u know of any please post a link to the website.

Thank u in advance....Jesus Franco :D

There is an "Edit" button. ;)

I have not seen a free host that does not put banner ads on the page for a very long time. It is a lost cause now.

There is a difference between a free app, and a free host. An app just takes time. But most people do it for enjoyment. Then they don't have to have a host, they could just send it to a couple people, then they ive it to a couple people, then maybe one or two have a server, then they can host it for a while and such. Now a free host, the host has to pay for the servers, the electricity to keep those servers powered on 24/7, the static IP address, the HUGE connection to the internet (we're talking T1 or T3, couple thousand a month). There is so much that goes into a host.

Damn you know alot about web development.

I asked if there is a way to use software to make the forums. Then I could upload all the files to a free host. But anyway thanks and I already have a host and am currently developing my forums! :naughty: So thanks anyway.

Oh sorry.

Most (infact, maybe all) forum software need PHP support and a mySQL database. You may have to get a paid host for those, especially the mySQL database. If you have these and have FTP access, then it's butta!

You can use Invision Power Board. It has instructions in the package. If you get a CHMOD message while installing it on your server, you change that in you FTP Client Program (I had this problem at first).

There is also phpBB.

With forums, you may have to not use a free-hosting, unless you get really lucky and they do offer these services.

There may be forum software that doesn't use PHP or mySQL, but I haven't been keeping a look out for them. If I come upon one, I'll let you know.

Why thank you!

How nice! :D

Ikonboard doesn't use PHP or MySQL, but you'll need CGI support and dBase (Or something like that installed in the server). It's alsp not great but does the job for smaller sites.
