Just wanted to give everyone a heads up, I caught a new varient of MSBlast this morning. It was fairly easy to find and remove with McAfee's software & website, but it was a pain in the **** on my cable connection until I removed it.

The network at my university is full of new and old viruses. I had to reformat a few months ago then try to re-download all the windows updates and anti-virus/spyware programs. My two-year-old trial of Norton was of no help. Three viruses in about ten minutes while trying to get virus and windows updates.
I had to go off-campus before I could actually get my computer to a point where it was safe to connect back on campus.
Anyways, thanks again or the reminder that not all the viruses of the past are completely through.

while i'm not in resnet, my friend is a senior rescon, and i'm usually helping him out with computer issues on campus. i know how much of a pain these can be!
Yesterday, I helped my neighbour hunting down virusses: 700 of the bastards where removed, except some AGOBOT variants. Some of the AGOBOT virusses are real *****es: when you load anti-virus software or open regedit/msconfig it automatically shuts them down. Also, 2 instances of the virus protected eachother: when one was unloaded, the other automatically started it again.
A reformat was necessary.

thank god someone understands. the students sure don't. and we have a corporate license with symantec...thousands of copies of norton corporate free. and they still complain <_< not to mention, don't know where the backslash key is :rant:

did you disable system restore and try rebooting in safe mode? I've even seen some of those viruses even not allow the computer to go into safe mode 
I know what you mean...those agobot/gaobot viruses are a pain in the ass
This thread belongs in Windows OS. After all, viruses are software

Blaster isn't as rampant at our campus anymore. But in the past month, it was Gaobot that was bringing us to our knees here at Cal Poly's ResNet where I work. We had loads of laptops and desktops in our office, so the workaround time was insane.
