[question]trading In My Pc Laptop For Ibook

I can't stand it anymore. Ever since I laid my eyes on an aqua-like skin, I've wanted to get an Apple computer. I hate how my PC laptop is heavy and large. I work for my college ResNet, where we deal with computer problems; that's where I got sick of dealing with Windows. Virus after broken startup after popup after yadda yadda yadda. Coming home to my Panther-skinned PC laptop just isn't doing it for me, since I still have Windows problems occasionally.

So I've been on the search for a deal. I think I may have one, and can finally make the switch, but I'd like to ask your opinion if the deal is worth it:

My laptop specs:

Compaq Presario 2700

1.2GHz Pentium III-m

512MB PC133 RAM

15" display

32MB Video memory

16x CD-RW drive and 8x DVD-ROM drives

20GB hard drive

Windows XP Home

What I am being offered:

Well, remember, the main thing about switching is software. Does it come with all the software you need and are there Mac counterparts for the current apps that you use on your Win machine available for OS X? If you don't mind loosing all those progs and finding new ones, then I say go for it.

The only tasks I do on my current laptop are using Office for homework, printing, using the Internet, checking email, and the occasional DVD (I'll probably need to buy the DVD/CD-RW combo drive off eBay).

Man that is a bad deal if I ever saw one. Just think about it logically. You are trading your system for one that has 1/2 the clockspeed and 1/4th the RAM. If you do that, then I don't know what to say except that you traded a good machine for just a pretty GUI... <_<

I would never ever dream of trading my PC for a Mac. PCs kick ass!

EDIT: btw you cannot even begin to imagine how much a 12" screen sucks.

erm... i have a 12" and it doesn't suck.

i still wouldn't make the trade though.

the speed hit you'll take going from your current machine to a 600mhz G3 / 128 RAM will be shocking i imagine.

i think you should wait till you have the money to buy as powerful a mac as possible, or at least a current gerneration model with max'd RAM.

OK first of all gotta agree 12" screen dont suck in fact I prefer them to the larger ones the 12" seem compact and clean like a laptop should be...

but I also gotta agree with Sid that is a bad deal.... It seems your paying largely for the Airport do you really need this? my suggestion is treat you current laptop to early retirement and trade it for a better PC laptop. Now is one of the best times ever to buy a laptop they specs are amazing for the price.

Boost your specs you could probably double CPU, mem and graphics for little cost and maybe upgrading to XP Pro. A fresh clean PC with power to spare could just be what you need

Don't do it.

its a G3 ibook, unless u've seen any images of it, u can be pretty sure its the butt ugly old model. The one in an apple shape, i'd only trade it in if it was one of the square white models.

inferno10 Plz dont trade in your Laptop for that iBook. Listen to these guys they know what they are talkling about. Just save money even if it takes year do so.

Yeah, thanks for kicking some common sense into me everyone. Guess I must be getting maclirious or something. I decided to modify my plans. Instead, I think I will sell my laptop for cash (trying my luck at $650), then fronting the extra 500 for a brand new iBook w/ Airport Extreme card. Doesn't that sound more rational? :rock:

And actually I think it was a G4 iBook @600 MHz. It was a square white model, not the clamshell. But still, my new plan sounds better.
