I have an Inspiron 2600 laptop with the Intel 82830M graphics card, which is all well and good. But the driver for this card has gotten the idea into whatever constitutes its head that it has to automatically put my screen in CRT mode when I start up the computer. It's easy to get out of, but it's so bloody annoying to have the screen go black -every time I start up-! :rant:
Has anyone else had this problem, or is my driver just possessed?
If it happens before the windows starup screen, it means its not the driver, but a is likley a BIOS setting. Have you played around in the BIOS and looked for default VGA modes?
It happens after the logon screen, when the desktop, taskbar, etc. appear.
What on earth is CRT mode??? 
It's sending the video output to the monitor port instead of to the screen. Since there is no monitor -on- this monitor port, there is merely an irritating black screen.
