[release] Ole32.dll Tweak - Panther Drag/drop

For those of you who did the shell32.dll tweak for changing your drag and drop to panther style I posted yesterday, this is the second part. Not all of the resources for drag/drop cursors are in the shell32. The rest are in the ole32.dll. This mod gives you the resources to replace those ole32 cursors to complete your panther-style drag/drop modding. Fortunately these resources are cursor files with true alpha blending. The result is a perfect replica of the Panther drag and drop cursor function. Enjoy.

You will need resource hacker to open the ole32.dll and replace cursor resource files 1-7 with the three cursors included.

Tested on XP SP1. Always backup before making a change to a system file.

This is awesome...thanks alot! I wish I could have beat flarex to the news post.

#162702

is this mnod working with winrar?

#162706

What's the difference between the two Shell32.dll and ole32.dll mods?

When are the cursors from each used? I take it that it means that we need to mod both?!? Or will it be fine with just the ole32.dll? I like the sound of it being alphablended but still not sure if I want to do it with shell32.dll if it's gonna leave a square around it?

#162832

i hav only applied this one - rather hav xp than a white box around it

works perfectly!! for instance - drag a song from itunes to the desktop - you get a green plus copy beside it - alphablended!! :D

when is shell32.dll used?

#162836

YES!!!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering why all the drags weren't replaced.

Ur smart cause I never heard of anyone modding the ole32.dllfile......GOOD JOB MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ Bicet: you are right. I hadn't tried winrar. I looked into it and Winrar for some reason has its own resource for drag-drop. Bother. It has one cursor resource, and thats the one. I've replaced mine. Thanks for bringing it up. There may be other apps that do this here and there.

@Xalcore and thefunky_monkey: different drag/drop situations seem to use these two different resources at different times. The shell32 resource seems to be used when dragging files in and out of explorer windows on local disks. Anything non local or through an individual app tend to use the ole resources. I'm sure soemone out there knows the clear difference between their usage, but myself, I'm not entirely certain. I did notice that Nexplorer seems to only use the ole resource so if you use that to navigate your computer, you won't see the shell32 stuff anyway.

#162882

Ahh, Gotcha!

Thanks for that dude!

#162885

@pazl also i've replaced. Thnx for thw nice work

thanks for the contribution. Actually we perfected the shell32.dll tweak over in the shell32.dll thread. It now looks much more like the OS X cursor with transparency versions at two seperate color depths.

go here

Hey, and you know, it would be nice if in the future, if you add to someone else's work (which is always kindly appreciated), including copying the readme file, it would also be (very kindly) appreciated if you'd keep the names of the originators with it when you redistribute. You copied the english of my readme file but deleted my name from it. :D

I do have a cursor for the CD thing. I'll post it here for you although its not really the right forum for it...

this goes in the user32.dll, cursor resource...errr.... can't remember... there's a lot of cursors in the user32....just search through...you'll find it.... hope this helps...

cheers

I am sorry for my bad English!

Your cursor for user32.dll should be 16bit.

In other cases there will be a mistake and Windows can not will be loaded
