Menu from the dock

Hello I'm new 2 this boad, have been using it for some while now

but never posted something but I just want 2 share this with u

I'm also using the Yz dock, and luving it.

But the functionality would b greatly improved with the

ability of a menu. And I'm sure that moby and mr Yz are working on it

but untill that time I think I found a desent alternative

I just put a shortcut 2 the program in the dock and wheeeei

The program is realy easy 2 use and has loads of exra functions, as writen in its manual

the arguments I used for the example was:

-display 4 xp flat -appearatx 600 -appearaty 880 -makepretty -dieonmouseout -transparent 05 -noshowhidden -iconsforfolders

As u can see, it can b placed on fixed coords or its just opens on the point where u click on the shortcut, and also has nifty t

ransparency

I find that this realy works nicely and I'm looking foreward 2 mr' Yz and moby's implementation of the menu

I also read the post of Taha and seen the programs what where used there but I think this 1 is much faster and more customisable,

A few questions tho...

Is it skinnable? Does it import PNG or Ico? Can you create your own menus?

It usses the skin from windowsXP, In my case crystal theme.

U can create ur own menu's verry ez. I works like this:

U create a dir and put the executable shortpopup in it, and link 2 that file.

And every link 2 a program or every sub folder (in the folder where the file is )is displayed with is original, or custom icon(thus it uses the icon of the file or shortcut)

So.....You create folders with shortcuts and you place ShortPopUp.exe.

You then drag ShortPop.exe to the Dock (give it whatever PNG you want) and it wil scan for Shortcut files just within the folder ShortPopup.exe is

So multiple folders require multiple copies of ShortPopUp.exe

The PopUp menu does not follow the PNG icon and remains open but is easy to use

How do you access the command line they are talking about for all those functions ?

The command line flags are to be placed AFTER the path to ShortPopUp.exe in the 'Target' field when you right-click

and select properties on a shortcut to ShortPopUp.exe, for example:

'Target' = c:\ShortCuts\ShortPopUp.exe -display 3 xp -resolve

only the "root" folder needs the ShortPop.exe file in it, it then shows the subfolders as a menu.

But logical when u create another icon on the dock, rederecting 2 another folder with shortcuts u need the ShortPop.exe there aswell( but the subfolders do not need the file in it)

The PopUp menu does not follow the PNG icon and remains open but is easy to use

U can set the coords of where it opens and the atribute that it closes as soon as the mouse moves out of the "menu area".

How do you access the command line they are talking about for all those functions ?

I set them in the dock icon property dialog at the aruments field (but there are indeed other ways, what will archive the same tho)

Wow!

It's not the prettiest but is easy, fast, and does the job.

A very good tip to get a needed function. Very similar to MS Toolbar but can in a way work with the dock.

Hi there!

ShortPopUp is a great little program. Haven't tested it on Y'z dock, but it works perfectly with Mobydock.

Tip #1:

If you need more than one menus, you don't have to add a copy of the program in each "root" folder.

You can create multiple shortcuts of ShortPopUp.exe, keep them in one place (wherever you want), and modify the "Start in:" folder in each shortcut's property page.

This way you can prevent shortcuts from being scatterred around your drives.

Tip #2:

I always user the following parameters:

-display 3 (for icons & text)

-iconsforfolders (for custom folder icons)

-appearaty 970 (for 1280x1024 display, may vary according to your dock size etc)

-menuxalignment center

-menuyalignment bottom

This will give all those too bored to read the instructions something to start with ;-)
