[help] Quick Question About Formating

hey guys/gals I have an old laptop that runs windows 98 and I have never formated a hard drive before so I was just wondering if I format the hard drive on it will I lose windows 98 or will that still be there and everything else will just get wiped out.

I ask cause I bought the laptop through my dads work and it didn't come with any of the software disks.

You dont have to use DOS to reformat.....

well mabie if your installing win 3.1

alrighty I was just wondering cause it had a lot of useless prgrams on it and it is running really slow. and reformating was the only way I could think of to wipe the hard drive clean and start over.

do a google for a win 98 boot disk and stick it on a floppy, then shut down to a dos prompt.

when it reboots make sure the floppy is in the drive, this will load all the crap it needs to start up and then all you need to do is slot in the cd with the windows of your choice and install
