Getting A Mac!

Hey guys, I was just wondering if someone could tell me, on, like, a PC mhz level, of how fast a Mac @ 400mhz with over 600mb of ram would run on OS X, I'm guessing at around... 700mhz PC wise. Thanks!

ha! Good for you! I wish I could persuade my parents to get me a Mac. It took me 4 years of begging them to get them to upgrade our only system. (It was a P1. Just leave it at that.) I personally like the iMacs and the G5s... PC manufacturers need to learn some lessons about Apple's stylishness.

Wait till you get a job...then buy what you want...try getting all the software you're used to using for your Mac...enough said! (Damn...no spell check).

I'm on a 800Mhz G4 with 640mbRAM. It is *not* a speed machine :/

It gets the job done no problem, whatever the situation, and OSX is mindblowingly well-dedsigned and damned beautiful, just don't expect Windows' level of instantaneous click and response.

I know. I've heard about that from a Mac using friend of mine. He wants to play Counterstrike so badly!

Aw man.. one of my biggest pet peeves on a computer is it not being, well, instantanious -_-... as long as the folder's open pretty quick I should manage... please tell me they do...

From my personal experience with a 1 Ghz iMac in the Futureshop down the road, nothing has ever been instantaneous. Sure OS X is pretty but it is also "pretty slow" when it comes to doing basic tasks like opening Finder or Safari; I feel that unless you're on a blazingly fast G4 or G5 class machine..........By comparison I would say that the Finder clones we have here on Aqua-Soft are unbelievably quick. On that 400 Mhz machine that you are planning to purchase do not expect anything to be quick (well at least not as quick as Windows). That's one of the reasons I prefer OS 9 to OS X because it's FAAAST...:)
