[wip] Kapsules - Widget Oriented Application

Hello,

I have recently completed interrim testing of an application I call Kapsules. I am seeking experienced testers, who are familiar with reading the manual first Since Kapsules has been written for Windows 2000 and above, please contact me regarding testing only if your operating system is Windows 2000 or greater. Please see the text below for a description of the application. Below the description I have included a link to a recent screenshot and an AVI file which shows the app in action.

Kapsules is a scriptable, whatever-suits-you application engine. Similar in many aspects to its source of inspiration, Konfabulator, it differs in many ways. Kapsules makes use of the Windows Scripting Host, which allows it to use any language which is availible with an Active Script engine. Kapsules ceases its similarities with Konfabulator beyond its general purpose and function.

Kapsules is desktop widget engine for Microsoft Windows.

What's a widget you say? A widget is like a miniature application which rests on your desktop. Widgets can do all sorts of things. A widget could show you the current weather conditions, display news from your favorite website, or even check your email for you.

Kapsules makes use of the Microsoft Active Scripting Engine, which is a part of Windows. Using this built-in scripting engine, Kapsules can allow widgets to be written in a multitude of scripting languages, provided that a user has a language's add-on engine installed. That being said, widgets can make use of a certain languages strengths, weaknesses, and special features. Kapsules does not limit a developer to what language they can use!

At the moment it does require some basic scripting knowledge. Because it is ActiveScripting enabled, you can use (or learn) any of the activescripting engines currently supported (and some that arent) by kapsules. I have already put together an extremely comprehensive, yet simple to use, scripting documentation which should help a developer on any level get started. Let me reiterate that the scripting 'backend' of kapsules has been completely documented already, prior to the public release.

I am developing an IDE as a scripting environment with some form of Intellisense, but it is in very early development atm.

Im not currently planning for, or considering a 'script builder' of sorts along the lines of what Samurize has because;

- I feel that it would limit the creativeness of potential developers.

- I dont like many things about samurize, and want to compete directly with it, which means offering new, innovative solutions.

- Some similarity to one scriptable widget-like engine is all I can handle

I hope that answers your questions. If you have any more, please do post here, but drop me a note to check back to this thread. Once the application is made public, the website will be put into production, where youll find a forum and some very informitive information and readings.
