Piles

Have you seen piles in panther?

Yeah, so? Do you like it?

Well, its kind of new to me. I never really saw it before, till today, I pulled a bunch of pics from iphoto to my desktop, and there was one pic there, I was like WTF. Noticed the text was a little bolder, moved the picture and lo and behold there was other pics underneath.

Just thought it was kind of neat

Piles were a rumor. As far as I know, they haven't come out yet.

Maybe in 10.4, though Apple has had this patent for years and years.

Anyway, yeah I knew it was speculation, but the beginnings of what could be piles are in panther.

I get piles from too much bran.

Ok, anyway, Photo, I get the same thing on my desktop, but only when I've opened too many items on there, then, and only then, do items get 'piled' on the top right corner icon. If you set the icons size to 128 on a more or less clean dtop, then drag a bunch of files onto the dtop, you'll see how quickly things 'pile' up.

///edit: since i've been downloading (dragging and dropping) all the PearPC screenshots to my desktop, I've got a chance to illustrate the effect Photo is talking about here:

look at the top right corner icon and you'll see what happens when the desktop gets overloaded. better than windows anyway, where icons / files just disappear beyond the screen boundary.
