[help] Intellimouse Problems

hey,

i just bought a used intellimouse explorer 3.0 (wired) today. when i hooked it up to the computer everything seemed fine until the mouse kept on connecting and unconnecting ( could tell because the pointer froze and the disconnected/reconnected hardward sound played) it happens every 10 or 15 minutes. is there i way to fix it (i upgraded all the drivers to the latest software)

heeeeelp,

Pops

1. what happens if you don't use the software? does it work ok?

2. have you tried other versions of the software?

3. have you tried the mouse on a different computer?

4. maybe it's losing power. do you have lots of usb devices plugged in?

#159264

well

1. yes it works the same with or without software

2.yes i have tried other versions

3.no havent tried that yet

4. i only have one other usb device plugged in and thats a kodak easyshare camera

will it work if i unplug the camera?

sounds like the mouse is broke inho

id asy the mouse 'shutsdown' and looses conectivity with the computer, so the computer thinks its disconected. Does it do it if you dont move the mouse, if it doesnt its probaly a short some place.

is there someway i can get it repaired? i did buy it from a yard sale you know so i dont have a warranty

it might be cheaper to just buy a new mouse. sounds like this one's a dud.

try to get a new one from microsoft... call the support (you get the number from their web site) and just tell them your mouse is broken. . they ask you for the serial nr. and then they send you a new one. it worked fine for me . :D

will it matter if i didnt even buy the mouse?

#161997

no it won´t matter. i bought an intelliMouse Explorer 1.0 from a friend and after a year it was broken (cable). so i called the m$ hotline and they send me a new intelliMouse Explorer 3.0. :D

btw. i live in germany. don´t know if it´s different in other countrys.

THis is the case with all Microsoft hardware - if the hardware breaks in any way, they seem to just replace it with the current equivalent, no questions asked.

With regards to the Intellimice, it's a known issue with the late production v1/2 and early production v3s that they had cable issues, whereby the mouse would seem to act as if it was being unplugged and plugged back in consistently.

As long as you have the serial number (on the bottom of the mouse) I can't see any reason you wouldn't get a new mouse (most likely a v4!).

I had my old intellimouse for 2 years and it never broke once. My new one is also going strong (after 1 1/2 years)... I may sell this one for one of those new swanky looking ones - but I can't justify that kinda cash on a mouse just yet.... :|

i got my kensington wireless optical notebook mouse for 40 bux. it eats up batteries though, so i got some rechargeables.
