Space Shuttle Columbia Lost

The space shuttle Columbia appears to have exploded over Dallas.

Of course speculation is wild...but for now, let's just think about the families and loved ones of those lost.

This is a terrible tragedy and a great blow to NASA and the entire USA.

I live in Orlando Fl and was awaiting the sonic booms when I recieved news of this

Ive seen the shuttle launch and come home in my own back yard for the past 17 years, Ive always taken it for granted

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of the crew of the Columbia

#12583

oh dear.. anyone know when it occured?

#12586

WOW talk about sad irony

This had the first israeli astronaut onboard, they're reporting that the debris is falling around PALESTINE, Texas

Tis a sad day for the space program

#12587

I am just curious.. how many shuttles have exploded to date?

#12589

2 have exploded

Challenger and now Columbia

NASA should never have had their budget cut so drastically in the mid 90's. We were supposed to be close to having a working replacement for the shuttle based on the x-33 platform by this time

ohhh thats sad.

And I also heard about their cost cutting methods used. It seems they used cheap rubber for the oxygen container or seomthing right? This is for the previous explosion. So why doesn't anyone do something about it? I woulda thought the families of the deceased would have sued big time.

Honestly, there's only so much money that the government can dole out to different agencies.

Sadly, NASA was a victim of this.

#12595

Its very sad & highly tragic, I pray for the families

This is sad news indeed :( .

It's ironic really, when that shuttle exploded on the way up few years ago, there was 7 on board, and the Columbia shuttle had 7 on board as well, 7 could be NASAS unlucky number. :( .

Lets give our best regards to the famalies.

i think it was the 28th mission, and it was in use since 1981, it was old. Hope NASA takes measures to avoid this events again.

I've had heard this sad news on TV.

All of the world is stragged by this tragedy.

Yeah saw the news....Apparently India's first woman astronaut Kalpana Chawla was also part of the mission. I think the crew are feared dead.

Godspeed to them all...:(

Very bad news, but what do you expect from an over 20 years old Space Shuttle? It's NASA's fault ...

This tragedy won't happen if NASA has developed a sucessor of the Space Shuttle for years ago instead of repairing every damage after every flight!

So long,

unfortunatly, those shuttles are expensive, and they are not often made, thats why they are reused, I knew they were used several times, but not up to 28th times, the limit should be 10 to 15, no more, they become old=dangerous. Dangerous when the humanity has not total control of the space.

My deepest sympathy goes to all the astronoauts who lost their lives in this brave mission and their family members who lost them. Godspeed!

sincerely,

My sympathies and prayers go to the families, friends and acquaintances of the fallen astronauts. May God give them comfort.

Another day when i wake up to see something sad on tv. First it was sept. 11, and now this.

Atleast it wasnt some "terrorist" attack.

I bless the families of the lost ones.
