[question] Criticism Towards Artists And Deveopers

Hi A-S'ians, (:) )

i came from a board without really good artists or any developer. We were mostly talking about combinig the work of others (and a little ResHacking etc.). As we we're only combining, it was very easy to say "he, that looks pretty bad, why don't you...".

The differense at A-S is obviously the presence of artists and developers themself.

so, my question is: Am I supposed to just say things like "relly nice", "wonderful" or "looks pretty nice, but not my style, so won't use it", so the chances are better, that they cpntinue their work.

Or, can i also mention that (for example some lately released icons) are looking pretty ugly for me.

I thought, that it'd be better, not so say it (as it's not necessary), but what do u think about the topic in general?

greets, 08/15

Heres the official list of apropiate phrases you may use. Note they are numberd 1-6 so you can roll a dice to select one instead of choosing one yourself

1- That rocks

2- awswome dude (Y)

3- Nice job

4- very nice thank you! :woot:

5- That roxors my boxors (Though not social accepticable, it isnt considerd illegal to 1337 speek this)

6- good work

Anything outside of this list will not be tolerated.

I think constructive criticism is good. But when you do get responses that are not the aforementioned, they are usually "This sux" or "Crap". Rather than jumping to a conclusion and leaving the artist hanging, give them suggestions that will make it better.

edit: Hmm, I only have a 3-sided die with the numbers 2, 3 and 6.

Just pm the author instead of posting it, because knowing the people here they will go off on you.

whatever you do, just be sure that everything is tagged properly!

btw, i wonder what our Asian members would think of using 'ASians' as a new slang word...it kinda has a ring to it, but might be a touch on the offiensive side.

There is nothing wrong with saying you dont like a submission, however, consider two things:

1.- Dont say what you would not want to hear about your submission. If you have been working hard on a wallpaper but it does not fit someone's likes, them saying, man, this sux, dont submit this kind of sh!t will only get you angry. There are ways to say things ;)

2.- If you dont like the submission, and it is only because of preference or differnce of tastes, and you decide to make a comment about it be sure to note what you do think is a good about it (i have seen a lot of submissions i dont like, but their quality is good and i realize there is a lot of work put in it). If you dont like something about it; please do say what could be done to improve, no one is perfect or is born an artist (except some toads) we learn by people's input.

Its not like you can only say "thank you i love it"... see?

Common sense. Mother's usually teach their kids, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything" That's the problem with todays kids - not taught any values and respect.

Ain't that the truth !

Try to be respectful and offer constructive suggestions instead of just comments.

If you can't think of anything to help the author, you can always just ignore the thread and move on.

It's all about respect.
