Am I reading this correctly, its a single 4GB file? If it is, you're going to need to split it up into 700MB segments for backup, then if stich those segments back (if you need to at a later date).

Another option is to resample the file to a lower bitrate, etc

I'm still trying to work out how you have a 4GB WAV (or raw audio) file

Please thats only like 6 disks...... Music files dont zip well. Just burn them, it might take all of 3 hours (assuming your burner is ancient). If your realy concerned about it go and dump 80$ for a new 80gig HD and never have to worry about this again.

first of all, i appreciate your reply.

lostspyder: I was talking about back up not drive space. I actually have 150 gb of space but when that hard drive dies ( God forbid) not a space of the whole world can help me restore those precious music files, except back up cds

My only option I guess is to transfer them to my laptop wirelessly thru the home network and burn them as dvd files. I am sure there is an easier way out there and if so please enlighten me :D

starforge : yeah its a sh**t load of music about 42 albums

Who ever said you cant use an extra hard drive for backup? I have a whole 40giger dedicated to duplicate files (ie music) that are also on my RAID array. Its just sitting in the rack disconected, about once a month ill update it, but thats about it.

ps 4 gigs isnt allot.... :canadian: Im running at about 29 gigs of MP3s right now.
