What Should I Do?

Wasn't sure whether to put this in the Mac or PC forum. Anyway, I've got a bit of a dilemma and am seeking counsel. I play in a band. Three out of the four of us have laptops. I've got a PC and the the other guys have Powerbooks. My drummer is a huge Mac obsessive nut, and he wants me to get a brand new Powerbook.

Here's the dilemma: the band will pay for a Powerbook for me if my Windows notebook goes to the other guy who doesn't have a laptop. Now I'm very enamored of the customizability of PC's, as well as the proliferation of great software (I do a lot of web/graphic/music stuff). If I go to Mac will there be enough good programs for that kind of stuff that are relatively cheap? Will I be happy in spite of the lack of customization options? Are there any good games? Could I get over the fact that there's no right-click button? I've been having hardware issues with my HP laptop that have added to the equation, and I'm wondering if Apple's have their own hardware issues (generally speaking). I wouldn't be part of the PC community anymore. I'm wondering if I'd either miss it or instead forget it, being dazzled by the "bright shiny things" of Apple's GUI. Anyway, let me know your thoughts. If i was in yr place I would definatelly take it. I'm halfway $$$ into getting an iBook.

On that note - Get *ALL* the powerbook extras too. -they're paying for it right?.?.?

But in all honesty only you can make up yr mind. See if you can borrow a friends powerbook for a while and see if you like it...

[EDIT]: Anything you can do on a pc you can do on a mac. Vice versa too. Both systems have both their pro's and con's.

I'm sorry, let me get this straight: you've been offered a *free* Powerbook for handing down your hardware-defective and used HP laptop to a computerless bandmate?

You gotta be kidding me. What an opportunity. Make the switch. Worst come to worst, by the time Longhorn arrives you'll probably be in the market for a new machine and you can always switch back. I switched, and unless Longhorn comes with free packets of heroin, I'll be sticking with Apple for the duration.

Not to mention, you can get a two or three button mouse and still have right click. Both Logitech and Microsoft make great mice/trackballs that are Mac AND PC friendly. As fars as games go there are few out there. Most of Blizzzard's games (Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo II) have been releasled for both Mac and Windows, C&C Generals has been ported to the Mac. There are others I am forgeting. Have fun!

Keep the notebook, Macs look nice, but do NOT have the overall functionality of a PC, I have both, a Mac and a PC, I would sooner lose the mac.

Wahoo! I took the plunge. I got a PowerBook last night and I've got to say that most everything I would want to do on a PC I can do on here, and with Mac everything is all connected. I even found a driver for the right-click/scrollbar problem. Everything is so smooth. I just started downloading themes for ShapeShifter (I spent all that time trying to get my PC to look Aqua, now I want something different!). Anyway, thanks for your input, people. Now if anyone questions the fact that this community creates switchers, I can say I'm proof!
