Aqua-Soft ForumsI started getting this yesterday. At startup there is a window titled "Advanced INF Install" with the message "%REMOVE_NODIR_ERROR%" I have tried to search Google and Microsoft.com, but everything is pertaining to Windows XP with SP1. I don't have SP1. It says to click OK, and it won't happen again. Everything was set to default settings. Skin, Wallpaper, everything imaginable. So I went to my original Documents and Setting folder to move my iTunes and my project that I have been woking on to the current desktop. Restarted today. Everything was gone once again. And since I moved, not copied, those folders, I cannot find them at all. And my program that I have been working on for the past 2 months with 2,000 lines of code has vanished. I have a backup, but it's pretty old. Please somebody give me the slightest bit of hope.

Yes, it does ring a bell. The de ja vou bell.
It says it is for WinXP w/ SP1. I don't have SP1. I have no messed with MS Messenger sice I disabled it eons ago. Nor have I messed with sysoc.ini. BTW, am I supposed to have sysoc.ini? And if so, where does it go?
sysoc.inf is in the inf folder in the windows directory. basically you edit out the word "hide" from the inf file so the app will appear in the add/remove panel.
maybe you have a problem with the inf directory or an app with a related inf?
and what do you mean you can't find the files?
OK I found it. There must be another program messing with it because I have never seen this file before. But I still don't understand how to fix it.

Should I take out the "hide"? And why is it only affecting MY account? My parents's are working fine.

if you take out the "hide," it'll just show up in add/remove so you can remove it. removing "hide" probably won't have much of an effect, though.
and it's odd that you can no longer find the directories. they should be where they're supposed to be--the destination that you specified. hidden folders?
OK, now I am more confused than before, and for once it's not about my sexuallity. Is this file essential to fix my problem? Am I forever screwed?
i doubt it'll fix it. the ms article says that editing the sysoc.inf file to remove windows messenger was the cause of the error.
but since you can't even find those files, i suggest you get an app to locate them. you might be able to use a file recovery tool to get those lost files.
I think I know what happened to the files. For some reason, it is not loading my account information. It was loading an imaginary account. So when I went to my directory (C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\, remember I am logged in as myself, just didn't load the user) and copied over to the current desktop (Microsoft said to click OK on the error and it will disappear) to build my desktop again, it was moving it to the imaginary profile. So it made it invisible to any file browsing program, but is still written on the hard drive.
Now, is there a program that searches the HARD DRIVE SECTORS to find the data? Not an Un-Delete program, it won't work because there is no information to tell where the data is on the hard drive.

hmm, i don't know how to help you. i imagine there must be some way to get it, since it's still on your drive, but i don't know of any software.
maybe someone else will know.
