(annoyed) What Does One Have To Do

ok so here it is, I try my best to help this community out. I make wallpapers, icons, and have begun to make themes. It is getting so damn frustrating being denied releases of my work. I know I know ask permission first.

Well it goes like this, you see something and start messing around then it starts to take shape. You go and ask permissions and while your waiting you continue you work on the project. As the project finishes up you realize you have totally done more than you could have ever imagined. Then the email of death comes.. Hey sorry I dont want you to do it, or hey you dont have experience enough I want someone else to do it..

For example the mac themes that were recently awarded well they posted lets get some themers to start on these. We need to see your work and lets get going.. I show them my work and they and others just blow you off and say I want so and so to do it, or I think we should get so and so instead..

What does a new themer have to do to prove himself worthy of this community.

Everyone deserves a chance but it seems not many are willing to give it to them. Which sucks. What if KOL, ZERO, DUCKIE, JUDGE etc etc all stopped porting and theming. Who is going to take there place. US the new guys.. Is that what we have to wait for?

I know this is a rant and most wont read it but its just annoying as hell to be pushed aside when you too can put out quality work.. Sorry I(we) dont have a lengthy resume or a fancy website. Does that make us less of artist. No, so why treat us like they do..

It just kinda makes one just want to stop and sit back and watch..

Hang in there bub. The screenshot of iStyle looks great. But it's only natural that Mac superstar themers want Windows' superstar themers doing their ports.

Don't let it get to you ibanezcollector, you're one of the best theme guys here. Just hang in there :)

It wasnt so bad years ago, but the problem lies in that once permission is given, many themers take it as carte blanche to post their own poorly done versions and release them WITHOUT the original artists permission. KoL is even being ripped. I bet f anyone asks him, he says no right away.

I've been ripped, so have all the good themers/skinners/developers. Just go look thru the Aqua Applications forum...you dont honestly think all of them magically decided to start making a finder at once, do you?

it's like the auto industry...as consumers, we pay higher prices because of auto theft, unpaid financing, and damage...it isnt fair, but it's the only way the auto companies can break even.

Well, in skinning, the porters pay the price for rippers and thieves.

that said, it's basically a waiting game...you can't give up after one denial.

Also, include GOOD screenshots of your work for the artists, and MANY of them...they want to know that you used their vision in the right way. In other words, without windows style 'enhancements' or right aligned buttons or anything even remotely like Windows..they want THEIR vision, not some candy-ass crayola version with horrible borders and unskinned features.

your work is proven. Just give the artists more reason to like yours over the rest...they'll come around.

lol dont worry, it'll be alright.

I remember when I first came to these forums, someone accused me of ripping my own work!

lol

they had seen it on another site and didn't even bother to look at artist name.

I was going to leave here, but I had alot of supporters (and proof ï lövë psd's) and it was all good.

People dont trust you imediately. I takes time :)

Ok, I just read it and I'm ok with you.

I'm so sad you don't have permission for your themes, specially for istyle and shinobi white cause i saw the projects growing.

But you're one of the beste themers I know, so be patient. ;)

Everyone has said it, You have shown US quality, hang in there a bit, quality and good work is ALWAYS appreciated ;)

One suggestion, as to increase your name in the eyes of mac themers, why dont you use the written consent by Swizcore to port his work to show the rest of the mac themers your standards, use it as your advertising proof of your talent ;)

Hang in there, we appreciate your work, if you ever need resources, you know who to contact, dont you ^_^

Thought your themes looked very good myself, and see them as being some thing to be proud of. If not getting praise from other people, but for self achivement.

Porting Skins from OS's etc, its a pretty grey area I think over who can claim ownership of ported graphics. Well certainly not the person porting them. The images and icons etc, all belong to the intellectual copyright owners.

Wev'e been through this so many times before. Take images from a Microsoft OS or take them from MacOSX - still not really your work. I say that generally.

Meaning that there really IS that real person(s) out there who really did create that Panther look for Apple. Does anyone give them credit ?? - Does anyone say those skinners at Apple have done it again ! top work guys ! same for M$ too. These poor guys hardly get any credit.

So I wouldn't worry too much.

But if you port themes, and you have never actually created any of those theme from scratch and kind of .. erm 'borrowed' the images shall we say... many artists will tell you particulary at wincustomize.com that THIS isn't really skinning. No it isn't ! its porting graphics from one to another.

I was a skinner too back in 2002 I had some sucesses with my Luna Beta Themes, I had a hell of a time from the community though because I was porting theme's over. Even though I was the #1 skinner for weeks/months.

Well I hope this helps you in some way understand Something about skinning, and Porting skins. I have been there done it and got the tea shirt ;) just keep on going and people will recognise you eventually.

Cat.
