Okay, I followed Mage's instructions to the letter and got everything working including being able to create a free .mac account.
The thing is, why don't I see that "Welcome Safari User" icon when I go to www.apple.com? I even tried the local apple.com sites and still ziltch. 
Actually Apple removed the feature a few days ago. How do I know? Because I am a mac user, and I dont see the message anymore either..
I think THEY now what we have been doing. They have been spying on us.
Big brother is watching! LOL 
Heh silly me... I didn't notice it wasn't showing up on my iMac either...
