[help] My Gallery...please Help Me

Right, ive been making icons for about 5 weeks, in a sort of aqua(ish) style, and ive recieved hardly ANY feedback, and Id really like to know if im just wasting my time or if my icons are actually good, my url is:

http://digitalfr33dom.deviantart.com/gallery/ (there are two pages), the previews you can see are awful quality, click the downwards arrow to view the actual 200x200 png files, please comment on my work here or on devART

Sorry if this seems like just spam, but I really want to make icons people will USE, and ive no idea what im doing right/wrong.

First let me say this; you have a nice style! It's really neat looking, simplistic. I only have a few suggestions:

- Try messing around with different perspectives, and utilize depth as much as possible (right now your 3D objects, like the box, look flat.) Although I do like that look, you should give it a try just to see if you like it

- Don't make them in 200x200! 128x128 is as high as they need to go, I don't know of anyone that uses 200x200.

- Use vector shapes and the pen tool as much as possible, it will make your lines smoother and ultimately result in much cleaner looking icons (your current edges are very jaggy, not good!)

Other than that you've got some really great stuff going, I hope I have helped!

Wow! Thankyou thats exactly what I wanted! **looks at your deviantpage** your stuff is the type that makes me jealous :P +devWatch :)

When you say jagged edges ,do you mean when you click the pictures on devart the lines are jagged, if so its because i used the flash MX jpeg export with causes terrible quality loss, the pngs in the zip are totally different

#154197

Ahh, you're using Flash to make these. Here's another suggestion then:

- Get Photoshop! You're sunk without it :(

You really should get Photoshop, it's a lot better when it comes to icon authoring. And yeah, they are jagged in the closeups, but also when I downloaded them they were still pretty jagged.

ok, I will enter the realms of photoshop as soon as possible :D

#154206

A very wise move, happy iconing!

#154208

Nice

Its ok.... You shouldnt realy use the gloss thiing as an overlay, and use the effect on each part. There very amaturish. I would sugest looking at some of the icon experts and trying to duplicate the effects they do.

#154238

Are you talking about a specific icon/icon set?

#154251

dude I thought you were using Photoshop all this time. When i gave you advice online (some which was not even taken -_-) I gave you step by step tutorials for use with Photoshop.

I'm guessing that that is the reason why you didn't understand what I was saying.

I took what you said to mean dont let the darker color in my gradient touch the edge of the shape

#154520

Persionaly instead of photoshop, i recoment fireworks, its vectory capabilitys offer everything photoshop can raster, plus you can easily change things on they fly.

#154532

Im sorting out getting photoshop and fireworks...

But anyway, I just made http://www.deviantart.com/download/6975502/

Do you think thats any better? I havent used that effect before (and there 128x128 :D)
