Longhorn=too Busy+too Messy+too Ugly

http://www.activewin.com/screenshots/longhorn/

look at that GUI. it's terrible. the start menu has it's own bar and then there's this big-ahttp://www.sdfsd.comss block thing on the side that has everything else.

where's the window space-

where's the colour?

it's a big dark blue thing and you can hardly see anything at all.

i know this is still beta, but it looks as if windows is just going to get worse!

It's all preference...

Although its not my preference ^_^

#154119

lol, funny, this might be, what? the tenth post on the matter? have you searched the boards for it? guess not.

Bottomline in most of them is. Longhorn is still very much in a development stage and it is not meant to run on crappy ass resolutions available nowadays...

#154120

Look at that beta gui....

Microsoft put features above looks in all their OSes, you cant judge what a future OS will look like based on its beta builds. I mean, look at the early versions of XP, it looked just like 2000 or 98.

Truth is, longhorn will no doubt open many more GUI possibilities, no limit them.

#154121

you're prolly right.

but still, it doesn't even look like they're going for a 64 bit os

#154125

well its like 100% custimisable, and have you seen some of its capabilitys?? msPaint has zoom. ZOOM!!!!!

#154126

mspaint has zoom now.

#154129

We are still a couple of years away from release. Anything can happen in that time period. I used to be the ones that passed judgement, but then I got over that. Mostly from everyone beating me with my staff.

#154130

hehe

#154133

thats why you shouldnt let anyone touch your staff wizard , im just waiting for someone educated on the matter (As some official beta testers among us) to come and shed some light... AGAIN

I was never aware 64bit OSes had a certain look to them. Considering there are none out other than the iItinatum 64Bit OS

#154139

this isnt my preference either but no doubt when its released (in like 220 :)

Look at the current build of XP, it looks worse :naughty: ;)

#154175

By the time Longhorn is released I wont even be using Windows anyway :D - Migrating to OSX - just tired of M$ and Windows right now...

#154185

Never judge a book by its cover.

OSX may look nice in screenshots - but if it didn't run as beautifully as it does 100% of the time - this would be an emptier forum.

I'm sure Longhorn will have a nice GUI by the time its complete, M$ are very close to Apple so they still want to compete in the looks department.

The current build of Longhorn sports the Slate look. The link he posted is from a very old beta of Longhorn which had the Plex look. Just take a look at the date at the very top of that page....it's March 5, 2003. :6

EDIT: Windows Classic is the best GUI ever... -_-

#154193

Yeah, you shouldn't jump to conclusions, and it's anything like past Windows version it shouldn't be too hard to hack into submission.

Give me a CLI anyday please.

I was about to post but I noticed Sid has already pointed this out...

The date of the page is over A YEAR OLD that is an early 4000 build the GUI has vasley changed since then, the reason you see the same design over and over is that the early 4000 build is the one that leaked onto the net and various P2P networks and even so were talking about a OS that wont be release for another 3 years AT LEAST.

The latest build sports a much cleaner GUI currently called Slate which is from the Luna you are seeing in the screenshots. The resolution looks like 640 anyway of course theres no space longhorn is designed for 1024+ You say you knows its Beta well guess what.... Its not... MS are only just releasing the 1st alpha how can you make a assumption on a release this early I think the GUI is the last thing on thier minds at the moment. The only thing Im seeing different anyway is the right-bar other than that its XP and I cant see you being forced to keep it on the screen so wheres the problem?

I have had the oppourtunity to try Longhorn and I can tell you it is a remarkable OS with obvious bugs but its has great potential...

see here for a more recent version of Longhorn 4051

Here

that looks a lot better.
