Notebook Decision Help Wanted

I was thinking of buying an ibook or saving some more and buying a new 12'' powerbook, but...

I recently got a neat PC offer - a Fujitsu/Siemens Amilo D notebook for about 1400 $

specs are:

- PIV @ 2.4 gig, 512k cache, 533MHz FSB

- 40 gb HDD

- 256 mb RAM (upgradeable to 2 gig)

- combo drive

- Ati Radeon 9000 ( )

- 15'' XGA display (there were mentions of SXGA+ (1400x1050) somewhere but i'm not sure about that one)

- 3.6 kilos (ibooks are 2kg)

so actually, it's about power equivalent of a low hi-end desktop pc...

the downside is - (ram tam tam taaaaa) battery life... just 2-3 hours

Suggestions anyone? I'm desparate here and i have until monday to decide...

That looks like it;d be a good desktop replacement, nice styling, especially the transparancy

Reminds me alot of my own toshiba which has very similar specs, and which I use in lieu of a decent desktop

You would be able to run really nice stuff there and games as well! Though, if you're a hardcore gamer, than i would suggest you get the other whatever thing you mentioned (or get a game cube with mario sunshine!! wo_Ot!)

failed to mention that macs are much more expensive here (in croatia)...

Goku, that config you listed costs around 2200-2300 bux here...

That is, unless the Apple people get all mushy and altruistic on me because i wrote a really nice and mushy and altruistic (ok, i'm bul****tin now...) review of an iMac for them in national daily newspaper...

and chances for that are... well... around 15%, i'd say...

it really depends on what you need it for. If you need the pc, just to browse the internet and more normal stuff that can be made on a mac, go for a mac. If you need the pc for school, or for other needs that are not avaible on a mac, go for the pc. In my situation, im planning to get a notebook pc, not an ibook or any other mac notebook.

First, my budget is limited.

Second, On a mac i cant do what im gonna be requested on school.

Third, i have lost the desire to buy a mac

btw, the specs of that notebook are very good

i'd consider the S series instead of the builky

my dad has a B series, which is quite good

enough for everyday use

unless your gona be playing UT2k3 in starbucks

I think B and S are from the Lifebook line of models...

and i can't get those at reduced prices...
