Pricing Differences.

I've just paid a quick visit to the apple.com site and saw this....

Now you'll note the price of $1099 starting....

I then went to the www.apple.com/uk site and found the same information:

Now if we do the maths... $1099 at 1.77 = £618.35 BUT working it the other way.... £799 at 1.77 = $1,420.06.

So basically Apple are charging us UK people an EXTRA £200 to get our laptop! Now I'm no FedEx courier - but I'm guessing you can get something sent from the USA for less than £200!

Why do Apple charge so much extra for us Brits? And please remember this is for the low end of the scale - the price differences are even higher with more expensive hardware (there is £500 ($888) difference on the 20'' imac).

well, different markets have different taxes on sales as well as different buying forces.

A company like apple is expected to get a ROI in a global scale that is then subdivided according to different markets and thus, pricing *should* fluctuate, specially when such contrasting and competing currencies are in the middle.

Granted, all this crap is still bull****! i can get a 40 pod here in the uae for 560 USD... ca-raazy.

US Price not include tax because US has fifty own state. Tax depend where state you live.

iBook G4 Price (with tax):

Finland 1.199,00eur

Germany 1.199,00eur

UK 1.192.80eur (799 GBP)

U should look at it the other way. If u spend the extra cash on a two week holiday to the USA where there is an apple store u not only get a holiday but u can pick up a mac while ur there and it will just cost u basicly the same as the uk price but you had a break too .

But when you actually sit down and work out why they charge the difference it will be because VAT is 17.5% (for the USA members that arent sure what this is its our sales tax and yes its high) plus importation fees on top of that.

If you had an apple shipped from the USA you would be lucky if customs didnt slap a huge duty charge onto it as they do quite often and we arent just talking a few pennies here either your talking a few hundred pounds but what else is new in this damn expensive country .

Thats not a bad idea at all = I could get a cheap holiday (just 1/2 days) and just fly it back in my hand luggage.... hmmm

just to add some input too, a friend of mine who lives in the UK came out to the U.S. last year with the primary goal was to go shopping... she said it's astronomically high to buy anything there... (equivalent of ~$80, normal pair of jeans). the difference in price from what she would have paid in the UK compared to the US paid for the trip itself.

(Isn't that why the UK haven't changed to the euro, since the quid is valued so high?)

Guys, bear in mind that, in the UK, it's illegal to bring any purchases over a value of £200 into the country without declaring them to customs and excise for taxation purposes...

Don't suggest to people that they should smuggle iBooks or whatever into the UK illegally - this is Aqua-Soft not Arrg-Soft.

I agree prices are sometimes insanely high for non-US customers. For example, in my coutry, which is poor, the cheapest PowerMac G5 is 2.300 euros. When u compare it to the US price (noticing that there is NO tax for computers here) one starts to wonder what the hell is going on there <_<
