How Can I Remove Linuix Without Deleting Windows?

Good afternoon!

I have a version of linuix (Fedora) which doesn't work with my wireless card, and I do not want to go trough the trouble of finiding out how to setup the internet that way. How can I remove Linuxix (on a second partiion) and re partion that area for windows without having to reinstall Windows. Plus, Windows XP Pro serves me fine on my laptop since I now have a G3 mac I got used off ebay for $330.

You could get a Program called Partition Magic, but I have heard of instances where it can mess up your computer. But if it doesn't I have heard many good things. You can split partitions, merge them, format them in FAT-16, FAT-32, NTFS, none or prepare it for Linux. It's $70, so using it for a one shot is not recommended.

You could also use DOS with

FORMAT <Linux Partition Letter>:

I haven't used it myself, so I can't give you any heads up.

DOS or Windows CMD cannot format a Linux File System.

Windows can recognise covers:

DOS: Fat-12/16

Windows 95/98/ME: Fat-12/16/32

Windows NTs: NTFS, Fat-12/16/32

Windows cannot format a partition thats not mounted.

I strongly recommend you to not use Partition Magic, i almost destroyed my disk with it. I had to format everthing after using it, because Windows could not see the disks that i had formated using Partition Magic.

You can use fdisk for deleting the partition with Linux on, that is what i have had most succes with.

Just delete the linux partitions (there should be a few) inside the Windows Disk Management program (control panel --> Admin Services I believe).

Then to delete the boot manager, get a DOS bootdisk and run:

fdisk /mbr

After you delete the partitions you could also use the XP disk to fix the master boot record. Put in the xp disk, run the recovery console, pick which xp install you would like to boot in to (usually you will pick #1) then type: fixmbr. Answer Y to the dialoge (I think it asks "are you sure") Then exit.
