One of my hobbies is a field of psychology called NeuroLinguistic Programming. NLP teaches that people give clues to how they internally process and access information through non-verbal communication, syntax structure of language, vocal intonations, and the congruities or incongruities of the said systems.
NLP teaches that people primarily access information one of three ways: visually, audially, or kinesthetically. People also have two parts of their minds: conscious and unconscious. People tend to have one part of their mind dominate the other.
Logical, analytical people tend to have conscious mind domination. Creative, abstract thinkers tend to have unconscious mind domination.
Now, believe it or not, Windows' user interface actually works *well* for some people. It works well for consciously dominated kinesthetically accessing individuals. 90% of all computer geeks are of this type.
Mac OS X's interface works well for visually accessing, unconsciously dominated persons.
But neither operating system works worth a crap for its competition's users.
We have the technology to make a computer user operating system allow people to access information in all three accessing modes, and appeal to both conscious dominated and unconscious dominated mind types. But they don't use it because they don't understand it.
