[help][question]closing Ports

Hi Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, how are you today?

I was wondering if there is a way to stop Windows XP from opening up those five ports at startup or am I totally lost here?

p.s all I know is that Windows XP comes with 5 Network Ports open and one Internet Port open.
