[help] Weird Blue Screen

i'm getting a very very odd blue screen all of a sudden, started 2 days ago. my computer just stops, and a blue screen pops up that says

"******* Hardware Failure********

*****contact your vendor******"

so, i turn off the computer, turn it back on, it acts like its booting, goes till the graphics card would intialize, but that doesn't happen, it just sits there.. then i turn it off, leave it for awhile, come back, and turn itback on, and it works for about 30mins or so, and it does it again. at first i thought it was my graphics card messing up.. d/led the new drivers for it, and it still happened, ran antiviris and all to see if by some slim chance a virus was messing w/ the clock settings, but my system was clean. then i checked the card itself, and the fan works when the comp is first turns on, but shortly there after it stops. so i figured that was the problem, i put a fan next to my computer to try and cool it down even more.. and as long as the fan there, its fine.. soooo, i took out the graphics card, put in my old MX400.. and the problem happened again when i took the fan on a stand away from the computer. now, i've had this computer 2yrs, i put in an extra 512 ram and a 5600 Ultra FX70 graphics card in it this feb.. i don't have any case fans which i know is bad :-P but i've never had a problem w/ the system overheating before. can't figure out why this happened all of a sudden. or whats wrong lol since its obviously not the graphics card.

It sounds like a fan problem. Its not spinning fast enough to cool down the cpu and thus giving u the hardware failure.

Just guessing I am no expert. I am sure a lot of pc savy around here will give you the right solutions to your problem

what else does it say in the error?

is your cpu fan working? did you make any changes in the past few days?

you should swap the fan on the graphics card. but you say it's not the card, which is odd.

also, what are your temps?

CPU fan is working.. no changes in the last few days.. and there are no other msgs on the blue screen.. its not an XP bluescreen, it seems to be a hardware bluescreen, which is really weird since i've never seen one of those before lolol don't have any temp sensors so i don't know exact temps. cheappp mb :-P

Check your PSU. It might not be supplying enough power anymore.

it could be the actual controller that went bad, and if that's the case u might have to replace the entire motherboard. Which would really suck. I think u should take it to a computer repair shop so they can run some diagnostic test on it and stuff...

lol well i would take it to a shop, except in my area, i know more about computers than any of the techs.. i know... i used to run a repair shop :-P and i started there b/c i was sick of all the techs around here ripping ppl off.. but i quit b/c well.. ppl that scream at you b/c you don't tell top of the line computers for the price of an xbox, are annoying.. esp when they call you at home late at night to do it. small towns suck lol

You dont happen to be overclocking do you? Cause if you are then that could be the problem. Even if its overclocked just a tad bit it still could cause unstability. Usually if your video card is stating to overheat you would start to see like red and blue lines going all over your desktop.Most of the brand new video cars these days you just cant go out and change it you would have to send it back to the factory. Make sure there are no split open wires in your computer. Make sure everything connected. How much RAM do you have? Make sure there is nothing in the backround running taking up all the memory. I have more questions to ask but i must go now

768 ram, not overclocking at all, no messed up wires anywhere :-/ explorer and one of the svchosts are taking up alot more memory than they used to, but supposively they are still w/in the normal range. 15-18mb for svchost, and 25-30mb for explorer.. they used to be about half that size, till about a month ago. lol

How about a virus? You say that it's not the normal Blue Screen. I searched on SARC but came up with nothing, then again, all those words in the error message are very common.

i thought it might have been a virus, but i've run every single anti virus software i could think of, and they all come up clean :-/ this is seriously driving me nutz lol

but i'm pretty sure its not a virus, and that its an overheating issue, b/c as long as i leave that stand fan next to the computer blowing against the parts, i don't have any problems..... my next test is going to be directing the flow at certain parts of the board, starting w/ the CPU, to see which area is overheating lol i'm starting to think that the CPU heat sink might have collected dust or something under the fan.. how it could stay there w/ the fan going i don't know. lol

hmm, if the mobo is messed up, do you all have any suggestions about what mb to get next? lol this time i wanna get one w/ temperature sensors.. preferably multiple ones lol

well, i went psycho on my comp tonight lol took everything out, cleaned everything, used the extention on the vaccum to suck up all the dust.. and took out the cpu and took apart the heatsink/fan.. and gooooooood god there was alot of like.. almost caked, dust in the center of the heat sink.. took forever to clean it all lol i'm surprised the computer was running at all.. now, if this doesn't fix the problem, i'm going to be really really shocked. lol
