I agree about how dumb it would be to take it off cuz you are embarrassed of it.
It is kind of a nice way to see how the person is dedicated to the forum though at a glance, although that isn't something to really base a person on. It's still nice.

It's important to me due to the fact that now the post count is on, we seem to have alot more post's which are contentless or not constructive...
Just my 2 cents...
It really doesn't mean much, and it is silly to spend anytime on it. I don't really care if I got 100,200, or 500 posts. The only thing that you can use it for is to be compassionate to somebody who is a ****ie (posts under 30). I have over 1000 posts on another forum 'cause I was there from the beginning but that does not mean much except to say I have asked many questions, and posted many comments.
I don't expect anymore respect than somebody that posted 2 posts. The only thing that matters is the content of what you post.
Worrying or giving much thought about the number of posts is like looking at the night sky and concentrating in the darkness rather than the beauty of the stars. This has been discussed before and the large number of people don't care much about it, except to make jokes. This is why I stated much earlier that if it bothers anybody start everybody with 1000 posts and count down rather than up, then ban the person for posting for a day every 200 posts so that people don't waste their time in looking at a number that does not matter much. It is the people and what they have to say that should be at the forefront of everyone's mind.
I don't believe that the number encourages people to post over and over again to get their numbers up. It takes time to post and there is a time limit that you have to wait before reposting again.
Having an odometer in your car doesn't encorage people to drive more miles to show their neighbors. It's a waste of time to load up the numbers. It is something that is not worth worrying about.
