Before I go and buy Microsoft Office 2003,can somebody tell me is there any difference between Microsoft Works Word processor and Microsoft Office Word?
[question] Microsoft Office 2003
I would normally give a straight answer, but since my Works manual is copyrighted in 1987, 1988, 1989, and I have never used Office 2003, I figure my infor would be inacurate. So instead I will direct you to Microsoft Word 2003 Product Information page.
You might want to try OpenOffice. Its probably everything you need. Its got pretty good Office compatibility too.
Thanks for the link

works is kind of like a stripped down version of word, which is a full featured application. word has a lot of features that you probably will never use, so if you wanted to save some money you may want to get works and trade features for cost savings.
