[Help] Does My Monitor Ghost?

Hi everyone, I have a 15" Compaq FP745A LCD Flat Panel monitor, and I'm not sure if it ghosts or not. I bought it about 2 years ago, when I didn't know anything about monitor ghosting with games and such. I didn't know about response times or anything. How can I find out the response time for this monitor? I've looked on the box, manuals, searched the internet, but can't find anything about it's response time.

What exactly does ghosting look like? Are they any example pictures or anything? I played a bunch of fast FPS games on this monitor (Far Cry, Counter-Strike, Unreal Tournament, etc.) and I can't seem to notice anything wrong.

I run it at 1024 x 768 with 72 Hz and a VGA connection on an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro.

Thanks,

well if you dont see anything hindering the performance.....why start a thread? If you dont experience anything that puts you at a disadvantage i hardly think this is worth a thread. But nowadays if the lcd has a 16ms response time, you wont see any ghosting.

The thing is, I don't know if I'm seeing anything that's hindering the performance or not... I'm not sure what ghosting looks like. Looking at Compaq's new LCD monitors, they have response rates of like 40m, so mine could be worse.

If you dont notice it why does it matter? And if it ghosted youd hear clinks of chains and moains throught the walls :P

I highly doubt it's that much.

Mines is generic ( cheap name brand) and it's 17 in's and 1280x1024 at 25m responce time. And 75 hz refresh rate. And I notice lots of ghosting. Even the most expensive LCD's today suffer from goshting. The best LCD's have around 16m responce time, while CRT's have like 10. The reson you don't notice it is because you probably haven't played those games on a CRT ( I have at my cousins house) so if you do then you'll notice it. Ghosting is basiccly a Smear effect that LCD's produce when theres light pixels in front of dark pixels and it's changing to fast for the LCD to keep up.

MaximumPC reviewed a couple LCD's in this months issue.

Belive it or not the Dell 2001FP ($900 20.1in) is better than every other LCD they reviewed including the $1,430 VIEW SONIC VP201S. Too Bad View Sonic.

BTW the dell is also better than the NEC LCD1980SX-BK.

dude not all lcds suffer from ghosting. what are you smoking? Nec 17" 16ms [ read the reviews ] My friend owns that and i've played CS, Bf1942, BFV, AA, UT2k4 on it. Like the reviews said, no dead pixels and no ghosting. I have a 19" KDS XFlat Crt, and it looks the same if not better.

Well then if I'm wrong you should write a complaite to MaximumPC.

In their May 2004 issue, on page 54. Their LCD Challenge. Even in the Best ( the dell)

on line 4 in the Dell'd mini review it says that "only a very slight amount of bluring was detected in high-motion scenes with bright lights against dark backkgrounds,.."

if you experience ghosting, you'll notice it. e.g. when you're moving too fast and the character on screen appears twice, as though it had a ghost companion.

since you've played the games and never noticed anything, you need not worry. ^_^

YEP I HAVE A DELL 2001FP  there has been ghosting but only in very dark scenes and "some" games....like halo, seems like dark games with grey tones. otherwise i play UT2004 and to the human eye unless u love seeing imperfections then you wouldnt notice it.

Dell is having a deal where u get get the FP for 715$ shipped but i think it ends today, i picked up my second one.

trust me i wouldnt go back on CRTs

I used to own a 21inch sony G520 FD, and its a good step, plus a lot more room
