[help] How Can I Fix Up This Theme?

i'm trying to create a smooth gradient in explorer, so i tried several tricks.

1. i used the trick posted in another thread about getting rid of the explorer lines, so i changed the highlight edge color and some other value, but the lines are still there. i'd rather fix it up in stylebuilder than have to use 3dcc.

2. to get a smooth gradient from the titlebar into the toolbar, i used the eyedropper tool and got the exact rgb value for the lowermost portion of the titlebar, but when i applied the toolbar bitmap with that specified color, it turns out to be less than smooth, as seen in the picture. i mean, the color matches, but the demarcation between the titlebar and the toolbar is easily visible.

any ideas on fixing these problems? i know it's not a big deal, but i'm a perfectionist.
