Well some of you may have heard by now that PC's hardware will drastically change in the next few months [ the creation/development ]. If you dont know what im talking about, i would suggest you take a gander over at intel's site:: Link.....Click and watch the videos that give you an indepth look at what it will be used for. PLEASE WATCH THEM!!!

Considering many [ if not half, i really dont know, im just going by what i have heard ] of all the visual artists [ Graphic Design, 3d animation, soo many more i cant think of. then again look at the tallented people in this community on PC's] use Macs, i wonder if this technology will be incorporated into their line of work? Correction: it will definitally be incorporated [ the applications need to improve], but im also wondering on how mac users will be feeling.

Mac users are gaining the opportunity to experience the wonderful world of Gaming faster than ever before. Yes i know Diamonds is fun, but come on there is only a handfull of great games Macs support. [ we all know this ]. Since PCI Express is comming out, this will just distance the Competition/Advancements between PC's and Macs. [in the visual and gaming area ] PC games will be more advanced...etc and mac users will have to switch or sit and play GTA [ not that its a bad game ]

Maybe this technology will make Microsoft want to create software that can use all the resources it has in a sufficient manner. Encorporating the 64bit processors with the software [ use it more efficiently like Macs. ]. If they do this they will be able to continue with their main goal. Which is to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!! hehe. Maybe Mac users will do the "switch" as they so put it, and move to Windows again or just move to Windows. Then again Linux also uses the same hardware as Windows, so the development will be quite interesting.

So if you can inlighten me and give me some feedback on what you think this will affect in the computer industry. Pls do so. If i have made any errors please correct them [ im always willing to learn, specially on this site ]. I would just like to see what you guys have to say [ how many times can i say that? haha ] on this topic. Dont be afraid to think out of the box and think how this will affect other industries as well.

Just wait and see Longhorn... I got the chance to see it at a Computer show and believe me you'll be amazed.

And no, the alpha's out there do not have the features that were demo'd at the show.

First off macs use the 64 bit CPUs better?!?!?! Do you have any evidence to support that at all? There are only a hand full of applications compiled for 64 bit, and in order to benefit from 64 bits the app has to be compiled for 64 bit, it’s not a matter of the operating system much at all. As far as performance for 64 bit, it’s minimal in most things you do. Like you need an integer larger then 32 bit for browsing the web, or writing a paper. Most of the AMD64 benchmarks are run in 32bit mode, from what I understand is notably slower then 64bit mode.

Second off not half of all visual artists use macs, infact most big CG design studios use redhat. There just isnt much for software on macs, not to meantion the considerably price diffrece between a mac workstation and a x86 workstation.

Thirdly its not 'windows' hardware and Linux doesn’t just happen to use it too, there are tons of different operating systems.

Fourthly why cant macs adopt PCI express? Last I checked the 1.8 G5 and above has 3 PCI-x slots. You honestly think that apple will just quit evolving hardware?

Fifthly gaming on the MAC has increased considerably in the last few years, and I feel it will continue to grow. More and more big titles are being released for both platforms. They might be stuck **ghasp** playing doom III...... And it’s not like this is a shock to Mac users "ohh I can’t have every game!!! What!!!" it’s been like this forever. Its like saying that politicians will stop being corrupt because of what happened to bill Clinton.

Sixthly all this thread will encourage is a bunch of flames just like this.

Seventhly i think the mods are more then capable of determing where a topic does and does not belong.

bunkka, you talk like you're the only person who's heard about PCI-Express... Sorry to tell you this, but PCI-Express was in the works about 2-3 years ago - some of us have been interested in it since then...

Apple's hardware will use PCI-Express just as much as everyone else's will.

As has already been noted, Apple doesn't use 64bit extensions of the G5 much more than WinXP uses 64bit extensions of Opteron.

Oh, and as Lostspyder said, don't tell us how to do our job.

it's because there doesn't seem to be a point to this thread. you're not breaking the news. there is no product out that has some sort of test result. there haven't been any earthshattering announcements to speak of in recent weeks. we're just throwing out ideas with nothing to back it up with.

maybe when these pci-express chipsets and controllers come out would be a good time to resume this discussion. until then, we might as well discuss how to get past the boss of level 6 in doom 3.

ya i know, but people like to stray off topic here...heck i do. People are always getting on each others case's and saying "your going off topic, off topic....stuff like that" As long as its relavent i really dont give a d**n. So you guys know how far it could be taken as long as its not off topic. Does this make sense? Did it take that much brainwork to figure that out? I know there isn't hostility, but if you reason like any other person, i think it would have been obvious and you wouldnt have had to post.
