[help] Fonts Issue..

hey there guys...

like the topic says.. im kinda curious in some fonts issue especially the

Lucida Grande...

everytime i see a screenshot of a Mac, the fonts are always much more thicker and bolder especially the buttons font...

is the font used really Lucida Grande?

i have been using Iceman's Lucida fonts and i have tried all sort of stuff to make em the same but all i get is quite different from it...

i saw threedrives panther skin and i was amazed at how the buttons fonts look the same as in a Mac screenshot...

in case u are wondering abt the clear type options... yes i have turned them on..

i even re-installed the associated fonts but its still the same...

anyway im using windowblinds...

is that the problem?

It's not a font issue. The font you see in OS X screenshots is indeed Lucida Grande, the same font we use on Windows, the only difference being that OS X does much better font smoothing than Windows. That's why fonts on Windows never look as clean as they do on OS X. We have tried workarounds by creating a couple of Type1 fonts (LucidaMac and LucidaMACBold) but they never look as good as the real thing.

As far as ThreeDrives's visual style is concerned, I have no idea how he did it at least I have no idea how the buttons look so neat , but if you take a look at the rest of the theme, it still uses a very Windows-ish Lucida Grande, which looks nowhere near as clean as Lucida Grande does on OS X...I will however give you that we do NOT currently have a skin for WindowBlinds that mimics the look of OS X (Panther) as accurately as TD's Panther Visual style does.

piggy backing on your topic.. and yes i have searched the forums. Is there a way to fix text being to big for some window buttons using windowblinds? What I mean is that certain buttons with long text (like the per application settings in wndowblinds) the buttons do not resize with the text so the text is cut off on either side. Thanks Everyone

Just for the record, the buttons NEVER resize...they are always the same length regardless of the font size. I mean at least they don't dynamically resize if I understand what you are trying to convey.

As for your problem, no I don't think there is a solution to the problem apart from reducing the font size of the buttons from within the WindowBlinds control panel, but then the font becomes too small and the whole theme looks fugly IMO. -_-

Just because its different, it doesnt mean its better.

Personally I think the fonts on windows are alot more clean and precise than the ones on Mac OSX and Linux (linux especially seems to have really ugly fonts :( )

The MacOSX font smoothing seems very bloated, making the fonts seem thicker than they should be.

I thought that was the case. I didn't think that the buttons resized. Thanks.

I said pretty, I said neat, I said clean.....I didn't say which one looks better. :6 Anyway I use Windows Classic as my theme (yes without ClearType) so I'm the last one to think bigger, bolder, smoother, cleaner = better. I personally don't care to see if every last pixel on my fonts are perfect unlike some people I know.... ;)

It's functionality I care about. I use my computer to do work and to do work I find Windows Classic suits me best. :)
