Please help me decide
Mozilla Vs Phoenix
well, i use plenty of different browsers (at home on my windows box, i use mozilla 1.3a and phoenix .5, and at work, i use Chimera .6 and Safari), and i can list a few advantages/disadvantages that i can see (your mileage may vary)
Mozilla:
Advantages--
1) Highly motivated and organized development.
2) Compatible with almost all sites (provided those sites follow HTTP standards).
3) More stable than Phoenix (as it is further along in its development trunk
4) Integrated Mail program (which is spectacular) and HTML editor.
5) Tabbed browsing
6) Themes
Disadvantages--
1) CAN be very slow at times (gluttonous codebase, due in large part to its portability).
2) New nightly builds and betas can be frustrating / buggy
Phoenix:
Advantages--
1) EXTREMELY fast. Probably the fastest browser for windows.
2) Many themes available.
3) Easy install- just copy a folder to your hard drive-- removing Phoenix is just as easy-- just delete the folder. Virtually no residue left in your registry.
4) Very small footprint (CPU / RAM wise).
5) Highly configurable-- aside from themes, you can also customize your toolbar, etc
6) GOOGLE SEARCH BUILT RIGHT INTO THE BROWSER TOOLBAR. it's MUCH more sleek and un-intrusive than IE or Mozillas "googlebar".
Disadvantages--
1) Can be VERY buggy at times. Because this browser is in its infancy (0.5 is the latest version), you WILL run into issues with the browser crashing occasionally.
2) Doesn't handle certain MIME types correctly. Took me a week to get Phoenix to PLAY mp3 files when clicked, instead of downloading them as binary text.
3) Good luck finding a nice Phoenix PNG for your dock=)
Again, your mileage may vary, but i hope the above helps you in your decision.
Good luck finding a HQ Safari PNG for your docks?
huh? where you been it was posted quite a while ago, back before lynchknot's theme came out...
Heck it's what I used in my tutorials to create the safari.ico
and about.gif files.
