Video Card Is Acting Weird...

1st off, my vid card is a Radeon 9800 PRO using the latest Catalyst 4.4 drivers

The day before I installed the new drivers, I was getting this problem, and the new ones haven't had any effect (I've tried several games in both SP and MP).

The problem is: the frame rate stays around 20-30 FPS, making it pretty much unplayable).

Is my card fried or what? Thx.

Ok, I turned down hardware acceleration one notch as suggested here (thx for the link Shiggy)

there should be a vertical Sync option you can turn off to get more FPS. Uhmm what proscessor do you have?

Thx..but disabling write combining and turning harware acceleration down a notch fixed the problem (Y)

i had the same problem with my ti4200, but i found that disabling write combining, but keeping hardware acceleration at max is enough to fix it.

try that and you'll get higher fps.

no problem, man.

i still don't know why i need to do this for things to remain snappy, but i know that if i leave the option checked, all the alpha transparencies on my desktop conflict, slowing down my pc.
