[help] Problems With Nvidia Drivers

alo,

any and all nvidia users, a question for you... has anyone successfully upgraded their video driver lately? Everytime they have a new release, i pray and pray that this is the one that will work, but no, never does. i also have to roll it back to the default xp driver.

the problem i get is that it only recognizes it as 640x480 resolution & 4 bit colors... aka crap. my card is a geforce 2 mx400, definitely supported by the drivers according to their documentation. and i know the card is working because the default driver works and i get full color... it's only with certain apps/games i was having problems with, so i figured to update the driver...

anyone know what the prob might be?

I recently upgraded my Nvidia drivers to the WHQL certified drivers (56.72) on the nVidia website. No problems with the download or install. I'm running a GF440 MX and have the full range of options.

Are you downloading the drivers from nVidia or going through Windows Update?

Try "update drivers" for your display adapter in the device manager. If that doesn't work, try "uninstalling" your video card from the device manager, rebooting to let Windows pick it up again and then try the new drivers.

ive had no problems with the latest or going back to older versions - ( i have done both in the past month ) i have a Gforce FX card works without a problem - all been downloaded from the Nvidia site direct also

i have a ti4200 and i updated to 56.64 or something. no issues at all.

make sure you uninstall it. you might also consider getting a driver removal tool to remove the leftovers. sometimes they can cause conflicts.

what's a driver removal tool... is that like a set of pliers?

i've never heard of that, does it scour the system of remnants of the driver?

but you might not even need to upgrade to the latest drivers. i think they're primarily optimized for fx-series cards, so you might not see any gain at all. are you able to use any of the archived drivers?

nope... i haven't been able to do it for any of the driver releases in the last year or so...

i'm going to be re-partitioning my drives soon, so i might reformat my system too. what i may do is try to upgrade the driver "straight out of the xp box" instead of waiting to do it after installing software and apps. if that works then it's something conflicting that i have installed.

im havin prblems, i have an asus fx5700, and i installed the latest drivers and Battlefield vietnam is all glitchy in some levels :rant: , theres like lines extending from thing and its really anoying :rant: :rant:

I'm currently running 45.23 WHQL on the GF4 MX420. Two weeks ago I tried out the newest release (can't remember the version number though) and it was giving me some strange issues during Windows startup. First, the startup took much longer then before. Second, when my ADSL modem (Sagem 800 USB) began to synchronize before the GUI and the logon screen was shown, a BSOD appeared and the session was terminated. With 45.23 there are no issues. Strange. As for your problem, wookietv, try uninstalling the driver completely, preferably in the safe mode, then reboot and install the new driver.

I wouldn't suggest using 5x versions with older than GF4 cards. I used to have a gf3 and the new ones never worked. 45.33 turned out to be the best. Same thing for my friend.

So i suggest you try the older ones.

i've never had any problem with the latest drivers (neither a better performance) but i use 42.51 cuz i can make my GF4 440 64.. to work like a quadro (with out any risk!)
