Mods

I have a suggestion that may dampen some of the stuff happening here, what if the mods did not repremand people in the forums.

Let me make sure i explain this correctly. Often times i see posts by people the mod says something related to what the person posted about then closes the thread. Is this really necessary. Why not just say "off topic" thread closed. I know some of the mods do that, but some dont. I will use an example that i saw in the mac forum. Member posts in that forum and another. Mod chimes in with "dont douoble post" was this necessary, why not pm the fella and tell them.

I think this is why mods get bad names and have people giving them hard times, because the rest of the community constantly sees posts like this from them.

Yall always advise us to talk it to PM's. why dont you.

Good idea. But on the other hand it is edifying to show in public how should you/we behave in cases when something wrong is happening. Page with rules doesn't suffice for all members, some people need to be reminded about them all the time. And when they see other's posts edited, threads deleted with mods' comments maybe they learn from them.

I never say anything related directly to person in these cases, I'm concerned with this person's activity.

Nevertheless I can see your point of view clearly and I'll try to keep comments like this to the minimum

I wholeheartedly agree with what your saying, and I think editing a post should include you comments, albeit they should be sort of generic and not reprimand the person publically, you can do that in PM.

On the other hand though, when others see mods doing stuff like this, it kind of leaves a bad taste in the mouths of the visitors. this mod is quarky, this mod is mean, etc etc etc.

this way you take your stuff behind closed doors, and people dont concern themselves with it.

Like for example, sometimes contra or whoever jumps on someone for flaming or whateever, that person, in that forum responds to the edit, and then sides are formed etc etc.

I think all in all you guys do a great job around here, and you certainly have patience that i don't.

Just thought it might help to get some people off you back or whatever

As has been intimated previously, we're working on some new rules for Aqua-Soft (which will be introduced and applied retrospectively when I've finished uni in May, and probably just in time for my Mad Week Of Tidying™). The retroactive application of these rules, however, won't have any penalty (unless it's a recent action that deserves correction).

These rules will be much more complete than the current set, including, but not limited to, rules regarding: piracy, ripping, politics, intellectual copyright, general post content, and forum etiquette, to name but a few.

These rules will also include "staff rules" - a set of publicly visible rules to which the staff will adhere at all times, and will be enforced by Timmie.

This way, staff and members will know exactly how one another should behave, and if either steps out of line, they know what sort of correction to expect.

I agree with cutting the crap in the forums but I really worry about the severe lack of humour and friendlyness in this forum unless you are one of the 'in' moderators - which seems to give you the right to post useless in-jokes/messages to each other.

I assume that's a reference to myself, Pe7er, and Seph, to name a few?

We've got no objection to humour - it's just that sometimes, humour can take a topic waaay off, and in things like release threads and bug report threads, that's just a waste of space.
