there seems to be a lot of members here who are having issues with other memebers over something i think is well, a bad habbit more or less.

im refuring to people makeing requests, and the first responce being, "use the search (insert rude coment here)". i dont think thats necessary. if u know what there asking for. post a link. if they just signed on to the site that day. maybe kindly point out how to navigate threw the site., i dont think thats asking for too much.

let me know what u think.

(oh and im not trying ot start a flame war or what ever. im trying to help provent that)

Yeah, it can't hurt to be a little kinder.

Along with posting "Please search the forum", post a link to the actual topic they should be searching for.

Also post the term you searched with.

When I redo the skin for IPB 2.0, I'll add some comments like that on the new thread/reply pages.

But yes people here need to chill out, thats one reason why I filtered ****ie even though that doesn't help at all it seems. Once we get the new rules up we'll make a guideline to follow about responses like that.

The search function is not perfect, I can search for "the best aqua theme" and I will not get crap based on what I searched for.

I've said it before, but I think that a simple search can go a long way. I think that some members take it as an insult when a person posts a "where can i get the default panther wallpaper" type thread as if the person wants others to do the work for them.

Although it is about the "hacking community", the suggestions and advice would still go for this community and it is something that everyone could benefit from reading. Some of the stuff is a liltte over the top, but i think it could get things going in the right direction if people were to take some pointers from it. It's a little long, and if you're going to skim, be sure to read the "Before You Ask" and "When You Ask" sections.

My personal guideline would be that if you have searched both the boards and google, and actually tried but cannot find it, then of course others should be called on. It's kind of like who wants to be a millionaire, with some people trying to phone a friend on the first question.

Edit: For the record though, a little kindness ain't that bad, and some people here are just assholes and uptight. With about 15,000 people you're going to get a few of those every now and again.

Let's all take a refresher course in forums. Think of it as a mens and womens bathroom.

You always go into the proper one, but when you get desperate you run into whatever is closest and typically make yourself look like an ass.

Posting in the proper areas is another huge issue.. Hell Ive been guilty myself

but they get blasted for that too.. Instead show them where to go..

We need less requests and less annoying n00bs and spammers who promote other sites like MacThink. Also we should have more polls and more fun stuff that everyone can participate in.

I dont see them spamming at all, granted, some of them cant speak english as well as you, but then again, you cant speak spanish as well as they speak english...
