Pngs

So anyone care to tell me why we are using pngs with transparency on this site. Granted it looks good on browsers that can suppport it, but it looks like ass on the browsers that don't.

Why not have a browser read script when a person visits, and then it can be set to load a different set of graphics, or at least put some notice somewhere of why people are seeing this brown good around every image on the site,

And No I am not using a different browser so get that thought right out of your head

Boy, it must suck to be you. I'm not going to lose any sleep. We're asking you to use a BETTER, MORE SECURE browser. It seems everything but IE supports PNG transparency.

Should we be supporting IE5 now too?

So yeah, most people here use a mozilla variant, so you're in the minority.

Don't wanna seem like an ass, but I'd like to see this happen too. Regardless of how good or fast Mozilla is, I still use Internet Explorer simply because I don't want to install an extra browser..... ;)

Mozilla :6 yuk! Good ol' IE for me. None of this open source malarky ;)

I assume your talking about users avatars and sigs, because basically all the graphics on the site it self are gifs :).

And we are not adding that IE fix because it causes lockups for some users. (AquaXP used to use it thats why it was slow)

I think Mozilla Firefox is actually the best browser and it looks great with pixelperfect or milk safari theme. ;)

firefox is the best

@sid: how does it harm you to install another browser? do you have like a 2g HD -_-

Mozilla Firefox take only 20 Mo <_

some people like to keep the registry as immaculate as possible, Sid seems to be one of those ;)... Nothing wrong with that

Users choice of image format.

As long as the images don't offend others, then too bad for those who choose to stay with browsers that don't display PNGs correctly... among other things.

If that was just the case, it would be understandable and i wouldnt mention it, but all the front page news icons are all pngs, and they show this hideous brown background to them.

I know what you are saying contra, but i just feel comfortable in IE, maybe it isnt the greatest browser on the planet, but i like it, and i know where everything is in it. I know many of you may disagree but IE screams for me compared to any other browser i have ever used and I have never had a problem with it whatsover. If it aint broke dont fix it right?

And like i said, maybe a fix isnt approriate, but maybe just a notice to NON IE users that pngs will look funny. Cause it took me a good minute to figure out what retard was using images with brown backgrounds lol
