Water/vapor Cooling

Is anyone here using a water/vapo cooling system rather than the typical heatsink and fan. If so, does it significally lower temps to the point overclocking becomes a simple task.

What I would like to know is what type you are using and where you bought the product.

water cooling lowers the temp significantly. i personally have not tried this but every review...etc has said so. but if you want the temps to be low to where you want to overclock your heart out, you might wanna go with LN2 [ liquid nitrogen ].

NoS, I think is way too risky. H20 is a relativley new cooling system and it does come with it's risks... such as condensation and spill overs. I don't think i can trust NoS, not just yet.

my friend uses a $200 cooling system, using water, he also has 4 or 6 fans (i forgot) and overclocking that thing is very simple...and effective...his computer is a beast!

well if you put it together wrong ya. but come on who [ with that type of computer ] would forget to fill the water resivour ? [ srry dont want to spell check ]and check it periodically. but ya, come on if you asseble it the way its suppose to, no screw ups there.

ahaha ya ln is toooooooooooooooo risky indeed.

I'm building my own... no sense in buying one when I have a background in machining and fabricating. When i'm done ill post some screenshots maybe one of you will buy my creation.

I can't wait... my 64 bit brain is going to be heaven.

im waiting till pci express. and then longhorn! [ or maybe i buy a g5 ? ] i dunno wait till next weeks episode!

The key thing to note about watercooling (when compared to top-spec air cooling) is that it won't make your system run massively cooler - it'll make it run at a more stable temperature, under load....

well the question i guess we should be asking is who overclocks around here? i've thought about it, but for some reason i feel like i'd screw something up. i'm still trying to figure out how to get my video card to not suck. @ 128mb i thought it would be blazing, but i'm not :(

#141133

dont mess around with video card overclocking unless you know what your doing. and if you have replaced the default fan. Video cards = really pointless to overclock. but i have overclocked my amd 2500+ barton core to 3200+ [ that would be a pentium 2.5ghz --> 3.2ghz ....its in the name ] and mine is very stable. you just have to have proper cooling and a processor that will allow you to overclock. like the 2500 is perfect to overclock, but if you took at 2600 you would be in dead water. so its all in the chip, i suggest you do a lot more searching on overclocking for your processor before you go ahead and do somthing. but trial and error is the only way to do it really if you want to learn. Thats why dual bios is my friend

What ever happened to hydrofluoroether?

#141264

water cooling can significantly lower temps, but it's not without risks or inconveniences. i can't imagine how i'd feel if some condensation occurred, or if there was a leak and everything was destroyed. plus it requires a lot of cleaning and maintenance.

air cooling for me.

I thought that this was why hydrofluoroether was so good. 3M created it and it had the properties to take out heat but didn't have any of the harmful properties that would short, or corrode you computer. It was essentially you can drop your entire motherboard into a box with this stuff in it, have a radiator to keep the liquid cool and you where set.

But apparently, it fell off the Earth.

you do defintley make a valid point... It probably comes down to appearance. The set up for HFE is rather bulky and really wasnt intended for regular overclockers but rather extreme overclockers.

@ bunkka - k call me a total computer n00b, but what does video card OC'ing do anyway? increase frame rates? or will it allow me to run my games at 1280x1024x32 without any slowdown? sha, wouldn't that be nice

oh, and does OC'ing your AGP do anything?

has anyone used clockgen? i just used that to oc my cpu by about 10%, but i'm too scared to go past that. i mean if you did it via bios, you could always tune it back if your computer doesn't POST. but what if you use this win based oc program and your computer crashes-- how do you set your fsb back?

oc'ing the graphics card can enhance it's performance. basically you're pumping up the clock and mem speeds, and i tried this once with coolbits and with an app called riva tuner. the gain, if any, was negligible. sometimes it can help, though. e.g. i believe the ti4200 can be oc'ed to 4600 levels. it's getting a more expensive card for a lower price.

i've never used clockgen. i like to set fsb and whatnot in the bios.

It will automatclly go back because ClockGen applies your settings at bootup.

I know this because I checked my BIOS and my clockspeed was the same, when I loged in my clock speed was way faster.

@ swisher59 you can't overclock 10% are you INSANE. How hot does your CPU run. Even if you have LIQUID NITROGEN in there

Click here to read more on liquid nitrogen and a overclocked P4 running at 5ghz

In case you did read it even with that much cooling they didn't run it like that for ever. They returned it to normal speed or it would've broke. They only ran it like that for like 5 hours and that was just to make a new record witch they did. :D

i'm running a p4 2.66. overclocking by 10% i assume it meant:

2.66 * .1 = .266

2.66 + (2.66 * 0.1) = 2.926

so i only kicked it up to by approx 300 mHz. did i use the wrong nomenclature or something?

i meant 10% of the clock speed, not the FSB.

anyhoo, i got cocky and i kicked it up to 3GHz and my computer crashed. and it refused to boot up again despite my using clockgen. so i had to reset my bios to bring it back to 2.66.

now what i'm doing is i'm kicking up speeds by increments and running prime95 to check for stability. so far 10% is unstable, as is with 9%. i'm running a test for a 8% OC. damn my asus p4p800vm--it's not very hacker friendly, i don't know if i can even raise core voltage. :(

#141558

I got the MSI k7n2 Delta, it's based on nVIDIA's nForce2 chipset.

And if I want I can raise up core voltages, FSB speeds and everything. I have overclocked my CPU but only after I did a burn in test. For those who dont know what I'm talking about Cick here to read more about it and download it

This program does benchmarks and stress test.

We all know that when a processer has been used for a long time it's speed increaces.

So when I upgraded to my AMD Athlon XP 2800+ I did a burn in, It gave my PC a viarity of heavy duty calculations to do, after like 24 hours it the test was done. Not only

did it increase my processer by 0.2 ghz but it proved that my system is reliable and stable. So go ahead and get it.

DONT USE THIS PROGRAM IF YOU HAVE OLD HARDWARE!!!!!!

BY OLD I MEAN THAT YOU DONT MEET THE MININUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS TO PLAY NEED FOR SPEED HOT PURSUIT AND GET BY RUNNING IT AT 34 FRAMES A SECOND.

This progarm is not for the faint of heart. Oh and you cant run any other progarms whileusing this, so if you are turn off all those desktop enhancements and close all those OSX elumination stuff.

BTW this program also tells you what to upgrade and what tweaks you should do to improve system performance. ;)
