Genie Effect 4 Y'z Dock?

I emailed M.Yamaguchi about adding that Genie Effect and here is the reply he sent

"I will not add the Jini effect to Y'z Dock.

First of all, I do not want to carry out putting a window snapshot on Y'

z Dock. While making much application run, it can expect easily that

dock will be occupied by the icon."

It sounds like to me that the items you have opened will be in the Dock but there will be no thumbnails of it only the programs icon. I wish he'd atleast consider putting it in there later on. Soon the ObjectDock will be released and it will have the Genie effect. Is moby planning on adding the Genie Effect to his dock?

hmm i think i heard Jeff B saying there wont be any more Genie effect in his new Object dock now though

00 really! well I think he should atleast make it optional cuz even the Genie effect on the old beta of ObjectDock was decent until you tried minimizing large windows.

Guy's, ease up a little. The genie effect is a toy, plain and simple. The dock is a toolbar, also plain and simple. As a matter of fact, the dock in OS X isnt the app that controls genie effects, the OS architecture is.

What we need is to stop asking the developers for trivial junk(like bouncing icons and genie effects) until they can develop their apps to work efficiently. Thay have little time as it is, with all of you bombarding their email accounts DAILY, let alone they have families and children to take care of, and they also work for a living.

How'd you like to come home, after a long hard day at work, with your kids at your ankles begging for attention, and you want to sit down to dinner, only to find(and I am NOT exagerating) 5,000 emails in one day?

'nuff said.

P.S. If this thread turns into a flame war about 'user rights' and 'open mindedness' and, my favorite, Censorship, I will delete it. It's simple...the apps are free, report your bugs, share ideas, but leave it at that.

#1234

about the thumbnail thing when minimized, mobydock has it, right?

As duckie says, this is a tool, I prefer a tool that works ok in a way and has some holes, that it works crappy in all parts, but it has all. If the developer has the time, desire, and ability to make the things, he will do it. It is kinda disgusting when people starts to beg at everytime for features to the dock, and at sometimes I think people ask for too much, and if you say what you want between people is ok, but imagine how much emails does M Yamaguchi recieves asking for features, and more features which can be certainly not easily done, just be more empathic about asking features, I dont think making them is easy, but be more realistic about them.

#1237

My email was not based on asking him about adding the feature Genie Effect cuz if that was the only reason why I was emailing him I would not have emailed him. And I know he probably doesn't appreciate getting 1,000's of emails each day which is one reason I didn't qoute it all to save him some emails he might get and some emails I might get. Also I wasn't for sure if I should even make this thread but I figure some of yall might want to know about this and it could possibly save him some emails from people asking for the genie effect, was I wrong?

In essence, you were right in posting it because it brought up an important reality. I'm glad you posted it. Just dont think I was flaming you. It was merely an opening or an outlet for discussions that have been on other boards and in my personal emails and chats.

I hope you don't think I'm comin down on you personally.

I agree totally.. frankly, I'm happy with the way Yz Dock works right now, it's smooth, it opens our apps, there's some sort of acknowledgement that you've clicked the icon (it greys out a little - I like this because with Moby's I was never sure if I hit the icon right on or not), and it already has neat visual zooming and poofing effects.

Of course there's always new stuff that CAN be added, with time and work, but it's not necessarily needed.

well said :)

Yeah...who wants to use a dock that looks 100% accurate but has no functionality whatsoever......(wink, wink, nudge, nudge....remember ObjectDock?? :) ....sshhhhhh Duckie's here!!!)

I like to know where were you guys when I have been talking about functionality for any of these docks for the last 2 months , and the only people that took the time to post were talking about bouncing triangles , genie effects etc. ?

This brings a good point about sending e-mail. I guess it's true about been overwhelmed with requests some good some not-so-good, and some just not enough-time . This is the purpose of the Poll to convey out of many request what is most needed by the user and to "nudge" or "encourage" the developer where his time would be most appreciated.

I placed on the poll the ideas of what most of you discussed in the last 2 months. I like to see a multi-dock that is configurable on the fly but it seems most or should I say ALL of you are not interested. I did not even bother to vote for the feature I would like to see because I wanted to see how many find that a worthwhile feature. So I live with the concept that it is not important to most and just accept that my thinking is too avanguard. It makes more sense to send or convey the results of the Poll after a month than send individual requests.

It's better for the developer and for the "user community"

Well, since i first subscribed to the board, i haven't mentioned wanting triangles, bouncing or genie fx.. NOT EVEN ONCE...

I'm exclusively *****in' for framerate and trying to suggest that having a PERFECT LOOKING copy of OS X dock is NOT the way to go... i wan't THE DOCK... not A DOCK... one that works and does all the stuff i want... i wan't a "modern" version of windowmaker's (or afterstep's, depending on personal preferences) wharf!!!

There were only two people voting for plug-in support in the poll!!! I was one of them...

People don't want a usable dock that integrates with the system... they want eyecandy that makes their win desktops look like osx and fit with their themes... they want something that will make people go "is that a mac?" when they see their desktops ready and willing to swallow their pride only a moment later when that person sits in front of the comp in question, tries to use it and says "oh... it's just another dock clone..." (in a year, they'll drop the whole osx thing and find something new to ***** about)

THAT'S THE WRONG WAY TO GO!!! at least for me...

excuse any harsh tones or possibly offensive attitude...

just my 2 c...

I like your spunk, but we have to accept that the core users/members started this Forum with the purpose of " emulating the look of Aqua ".

I think the idea of crossing every "T" and placing every "period" as an Aqua-me-too is silly, especially when some choose this over funtionality. However, I accept that this is, and has always been the purpose of this Forum.

I think many members exagerate in the ask of new features, and I dont believe that M Yamaguchi will come here to see what does aquasoft members want as new features. I like the dock the way it is right now, a cool program launcher. I dont expect the 100% shell integration, or that it has thumbnails, and triangles, and all the features people is asking for, I consider most of them a lot to be asked for. And many people do try to have a mac with all the stuff they can get, I have sometime on aquasoft, and i dont have osx skins since about 8 months, and I dont have in my plans to have os x skins, because this OS is not OS X, and the OSX is not just a skin, is a whole OS. But I do consider some attitude of other members to be abusive when it comes to asking features, I think it is too much.

I think you all need a more care free attitude. If you don't like what is going on then get out or ignore it, don't complain, we get enough of that from the beggers about fixing bugs and adding new features. As far as speed goes and how well it works it work just fine from the 0.1 release for me so the only thing next was some new features in my case. I'd like to see the genie effect but if the dock doesn't get it, it doesn't bother me.....but you got to admit it does look cool =). I'd actually like to see trasparency setting for the icons first and some more right click options on the icons or on the dock kinda like sub menu options the mac has. The triangle for the dock is no big deal with me, it's just a lil unimportant feature kinda like the icon bouncing.
