Aqua-Soft Forumsi had flyakite 3.6 or 3.5 installed and i installed 4.0, when i rebooted windows the computer would no longer run windows, so i have to use a different hard drive use my pc now that i installed a fresh copy of windows on. I am in desperate need of help. i am wondering how i should go about restoring the windows system files so that i can use my regular hard drive. i dont want to reformat it because there is too much information to lose.

well, if you still have access to the disk with the damaged windows files, i recommend copying whichever files are important to you to the drive you're currently using as your system drive, either through windows, or though dos or w/e, then formatting the drive, 'cause i don't think it's very viable to go restoring one by one each of windows files.
i would like to do that except for the drive i'm currenty using is 6gb and my other is 120gb. any other suggestions?
If you replaced with the Replacer every File should be backuped as filename.backup in the same dir.
simply search c: for *.backup and change everything back.
Next time use backupsoftware by your own. ghost, driveimage, imagemagick....
All of them can restore your system without installing a second windows 
i did notice that folder and i replaced those files that were in the folder but when i try to reboot in safe mode it shows a bunch of .sys files missing and there are no .sys files in the backup folder. thats where i'm stumped
that's odd. if you replaced with the backups, it should work perfectly. how did you replace them? did you use the restore feature of replacer?
you can also replace system files by using the recovery console.
what are the missing files?
i was unable to replace the files using the restore feature because i cannot use that feature when i'm running windows from a different hard drive to my knowledge. since windows was not using any of the system files on my messed up hard drive i simply copied and pasted the backed up files to their rightful places and let them overwrite the existing files. I would be willing to reinstall windows if i could get my information off the original hard drive but when i try to access anything from my documents and settings, such as my documents folder it says access is denied, probably because it needs a password but i dont know
That happened to me as well, I had to reformat my hard disk and reinstall windows. Bummer of a mod that was. 
put your normal drive back in as primary... windows is still installed on it correct? Then boot from your windows xp cd. It will give you some options.. if you choose to reinstall windows... it should recognize the existing version and ask if you want to repair it. Click yes... it will basically reinstall all the damaged parts. This is what I had to do and it worked for me. You will have to immediately get online and find all updates to protect against blaster and such though because they will be gone when you repair. I hope this makes sense and helps... let me know if this doesnt work there are a few other options.
repair installation will work. you can do that and get your data.

thankyou dreamz for that info, as far as reinstalling windows goes i dont get the option to for some reason, it always wants to erase existing data. i have reinstalled windows before like you say and kept existingdata. i dont know why it isn't giving me that option to repair like it usually does.

thanks everyone for your help. i ended up borrowing a 40gb portable hd and backing up my stuff and reformatting the original 120gb hd. i figured it was a good time to start over anyways
i had the same problem before when i installed flyakite panther pack. im now on iceman's pack.

But then again, to prevent such problems in the future, rememebr to image your drive before you edit your system files. One good app for this is Acronis True Image. It saved me from a reformat several times
