Mcbar

i like the apple menu's screenshots.  however, before i download it, i must know. how much cpu/ram does it take up?  i wont use it if it uses up too much...though it does look cool.  see the thing is that even though i have enough ram, i want to leave as much free as possible when my system is idling.  for example, 3r-1c uses at lesat 5-6 mb ram when not in use.  what for?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I don't know what does 3r-1c use memory for (most probably for 32-bit bitmaps which it uses to render the bezel), but McBar normally consumes about 3-4 MBs of memory.

Accurate users may note that on every recapture McBar takes 4 KB more. This memory leak is caused by VCL TToolbar class used to render menu (it is not adapted for such a frequent changes). Another side effect of this is "button shrinking" described earlier in this thread. This effect is known to happen even in the latest version of McBar. Replacing TToolbar is painful for the whole app - that's why you haven't seen new releases for a month lately.

i notice that the nice app seems to function only when explorer.exe is present, or else it looks weird, and when i try to drag it, there's an error warning(see the posted image)

@rimmer

can you make your nice app go without explorer.exe?

PS.

i am using xp without sp1

So could you please share it with more lazy people who haven't managed themselves to make such a nice thing? It looks very very very nice and seems to be useful also. Your menu is what i meant to do when I created a customizable McMenu.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

id be glad to share it with you but im in france right now... so il post it in about two weeks, and all the links work in my menu.

PS. really great and easy program!!!

McBar fully depends on ShAppBar function which seems to be provided by Explorer shell. So the answer is no. Sorry.

I made a Siro skin available at this thread: http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/index.php?a...t=0#entry220081

Hope you all enjoy.

And Rimmer, I know you're busy with lots of other projects, but I'd love to see the continuation of McBar's development.

rimmer,

How's the developement on Mcbar?

I sure would want to have my window-menu's on my task bar.

Together with my dock, Flyakite sysfiles and WB skin that would be as much a OS X as I could hope for. Objectbar is S L O W on my system, besides I think the price ($19.95) is way too much for the small percent o/t proggy I'd like to use (solely the menu on taskbar).

You're program seems just to do that.

Make it more stable, implement the systray, and you're there dude.

Looking foreward to the result of your efforts!

Thanks! And no OB promoting here please :) :)

McBar Project is a bit stuck with the huge problem called "item shrinking". There is a memory leak in a standard class (NEVER trust standard classes).

So if you wish for a new pre-alpha, plaese choose what you wish for - full stability (by the price of some feature loose) or new features (with trial-like behaviour, when you have to reload app in a while). Just kidding.

Now the project is going two ways simultaneously - replecing the Ttoolbar class and programming the API system (base for tray, plugins and COM object). I also have a few other projects, I'm trying to make my homepage (and I wish for a good one). And finally, I've got a conflict with my parents, who think I should get a job and make money not apps. Maybe they're right.

Sooner I'll have to go to the University, so I can't promise I'll make some release of McBar in this or in next month. Sorry.

This is how the things go.

And excuse me for lots of typo - I can't see the keyboard, it's too dark here.

I can provide screenies of every menu in Panther right after

osx is installed :) Me has it on PearPC :)

#203174

I'll will monitor the progress of this matter...

I found TrojanSpy.Win32.Delf.cb in mb138.zip (mcbrhook.dll file infected)

#221970

It doesn't display any options if the File, Edit, View... etc is in Japanese. Maybe other languages too.

cann't download McBar :( ... the site is un russian (i think) and when I click in the only link i can understand nothing happens... where can I download McBar? is there any mirror?

thanks.

I am not claiming anyone has done anything neferious, or that anyone is trying to play games, but...

I don't know about anyone else but my vrus scanner picked up a Trojan in the "mcbrhook.dll" : TrojanSpy.Win32.Delf.cb....

I've tested this with NIS, Panda, Kaserspy, Mcafee, F-Prot also....

Everyone came up with this....

Could be a fluke, maybe... but I would scan it and check it out first...

There was also post from svnk about the same problem.

Yes, most antiviruses treat mcbrhook.dll as a trojan. But it is NOT a trojan. For those who doesn't believe me still, I can provide a source code - compile it by yourself, you'll get the same thing.

Thу main reason why AVs treat hook as a virus may be similarity of my hook to recent trojans, which hook the creation of new windows, find their executable module path and do something to window (in some cases the same hooks CLOSE the AV windows or the TaskMan).

I repeat, hook DLL was packed into the distributive right after compilation without any postprocessing (packing, stripping, obfuscating etc). It contains no viruses.

About the captions in Japanese: McBar is yet not capable to Unicode oficially. I'm still experimenting. I can say that in most cases Russian menus work fine. However, McBar is in alpha state, so you're my test crew! Thank you all guys for your reports.

#222592

This is a problem with some widgets also, AV's have the "looks like" with unknown code running in memory and also upon scanning. It really has given some widget applications a serious problem for those whom refused to grasp the reality of it.

Thanks for the info, I ran this when it first was released a good while back and found it ok, your updates have reall improved upon it many fold. :)

Recently I was thinking on making McBar the addon to taskbar (like famous Finderbar addon in this forum). Or, maybe, make it the opposite way - McBar will be a host for common system toolbars so users can use their TrueLaunchBars, Quick Launchs or whateverver else right on McBar.

What u think?

P.S. to Moderators: maybe the topic should be retagged to [wip]?

#225649

I think I like the idea of a taskbar add-on.

#225668

There is a third way if only it will be interesting to you:

Now my Finderbar work with the help of the menu written in HTML and intermediate Internet Explorers window demands for work. It works, but it is not convenient for users who do not want to have IE on the computer. It would be very good to have DLL or ActiveX element (I do not know how it correctly refers to) which it would be built in Taskbar as the normal panel, drew dropdowns menus, communicate with Finderbar_Engine.exe and it was easily adjusted from an INI-file. It would be very good for community.

If it is interesting to you, I am ready to discuss details willingly.

Yours faithfully,

Landvermesser :)

/QUOTE']

Being a recent TrueLaunchbar enthausiast I think that idea would be wonderful. Then you wouldn't have to deal with tricks to show the system tray, time and all. Wouldn't it also save precious resources. Make it so number one!

p.s.:

Why don't you consider Landvermesser's proposition ?

#235859

I love how this software integrates and actually *works* with Photoshop, Flash, etc. where other commercial software doesn't :)

#239436

Other programs, meaning ObjectBar? Are you serious?

Mcbar got better than that proggy in emulating the OS X finderbar allready?

Impressive. Maybe I should try it again soon.

Then again, I was actually waiting for it to become a add-on the the tastbar, like True Launchbar, (which I use and love) so that I can combine them. To me that would be perfect . I hope Rimmer will proceed with that as he suggested.

#239541

OK, guys, I see you like the idea of taskbar addon. The greatest problem for me now is to make a toolbar that really supports Visual Styles, like TrueLaunchBar does. If someone has links to appropriate documents on the Net, please tell me. I do have freshest MS Platform SDK, hence MS' official information is not what I want.
