Time for a Finder Bar!!!

WinMac uses less memory than ObjectBar, but that's about it for benefits.

Other than that, it isnt skinnable, doesnt support window menus, doesnt seem to anti-alias fonts...

The list goes on.

So, where is a shell replacement for explorer.exe? macVision used to work as one, but it crashes XP now. ObjectBar cannot be a shell, WinMac certainly can't, NTOSX by vMac seems to have fallen out of development, and Ray's Finder is minimal.

C'mon, guys...I can wait on "bouncy things" and MP3 players...

WE NEED A FINDER!!!

I AGREE!!! I have my computer looking almost like Mac OSX. The thing that has been missing this whole time is a finder. Objectbar looks good, but it runs kinda slow and its a pain in the ass. We need all of the expert program creators here to come together and work on one that would be completly real and effecient. This would be the best thing to ever happen. Thanks for the idea Duckie. I was just thinking this same thing a bit ago. Later.

Let me add that I absolutely love Jeff Bargmann's work on ObjectBar. It is, by far, the best option to date and a credit to his skills. Nothing competes with it.

My issue is memory. With my hacked DLL's and EXE's, ObjectBar is a memory hog. Apparently, it reloads the shell in order to use pieces of it, including icons.

Now, i know it's my fault that the hacked files interfere with Objectbar's performance, but I still think there must be another option. Most of you have the same files I have...hacked with 128x128 icons and full color bitmaps.

I agree a finder bar. I would write one my self. But all I have is VB 6.0 (Which would bite for writing a finder) and I am currently still learning Delphi.

Maybe Moby can write us a finder.. hee hee hee, /me begs: "Please moby..."

There are only 2 reasons I dislike ObjectBar.....

1) It's a memory hog

and

2) Y'z Shadow cannot apply shadows to it's menus (I don't like WindowFX 2)

Otherwise it's pretty good....

Yes, a good finder bar would be very very nice. ObjectBar is nice, but I don't like that right clicking on something in the bar brings up all sorts of extra right menu options for ObjectBar. WinMac has the right idea going but it's functionality really sucks. We need a stripped down ObjectBar that is only for a finder, so you can't create the control strip or docks or anything like that with it and that is much more easibly skinnable.

If someone could create a finder bar based off of winmac but had functionality that exists in ObjectBar and more, then we'd have something.

Yeah, lets wait until the dock development reach the best point, and then begin with the bar replacement, it is better to have a good product than a half product.

I know this may sound lame... but for those desperate for a finder bar ( or at least what it looks like ):

1. create folders titled File, Edit, View, Go, Window and Help somewhere in your computer.

2. then left click on your taskbar... which i assume is mac themed and on top part of your desktop... expand the toolbars menu and click on new toolbar.

3. add your previously created folders, arrange them in order, and lock your taskbar.

4. for a "working" finder bar... just add shortcuts into the folders.

looking how litestep and blackbox for windows as shell replacements actually speed windows, I don't see how it would slow it down.
