Just wondering. I know I have 256MB of PC800 RDRAM and with all my mac junk running, i got like 2MB free. Then its fun to try and run Unreal Tournament and watch my PC crash and burn.
How Much RAM?
I got 256 MB DDR 2700 RAM.. i wanna get some more sometime. My board supports up to 3 gigs.
I have 320mb (2 128's and one 64) and with all my "Mac Junk" and IE, and Miranda IM, and The Manor. I have 170mb leftover.
Then again I would probably close the applications I have open right now if I played a game giving me more than 170mb left.
I tweaked my services to disable everything I don't need.
i have 256, which i consider to be the minimum and recommended, however i would like to have some 512 or atleast 384.
640.00
640 MB PC2100 here ![]()
I've got 640 in my pc, i would have to say that 512 is starting to be the minimum in pc's (at least it should
) Ever since i upgraded from 256, i would never want to go back, i've seen performance increases in the games i play and even when burning cds. Game levels load quicker, and now i can actually use my pc while burning a cd. Go for 512 if you got the cash ![]()
although my other comp has 384 MB. Although all it's being used for currently is an ftp/place to download stuff
The reason why I don't have more than 320mb is not because I don't want more ram. You can never have too much ram. It's because my motherboard can't take more than 384. I have 2 128's and one 64, I could replace the 64 with a 128 and that's it. If I stuck in 512 my computer wouldn't be able to adress it. =Þ
I have to wait to get a new computer to have more ram but I'm poor right now so I just have to be patient.
I'm not hurting as far as ram goes though. 128 however simply was not enough no matter what I ran on it.
256 x 2 PC2100 personal at my home
256 x 2 PC2100 personal at my work
and 96 Mb of 72 pin DIMM
on my fosil ISS server at home too
2x 512mg rambus ram chips with my 2x 2ghz xeons (512k cache) smoooooookiin~
4 x 256 PC800 Rambus with 2 X 2Ghz Xeons also
I cant afford 256MB more RAM. Thats like $90 online. Im broke, my friends, really broke. I have to decide between eating and Powering up my computer.
2 sticks of 512mb Corsair Xtreme DDR PC3200 modules. It cost a little but it was worth it.
An interesting note. The last computer I built I bought 4 sticks of 256mb Registered Crucial PC2100 modules for $40 a stick. That's 1gig of ram for only $160. A few months later memory was in such high demand that the prices for the exact same sticks had gone up to $85 per stick. Memory prices are so weird, lol, it's worse than gasoline price fluctuations.
I think I'll post something useful.
Running standard XP when I booted up, the PF usage was 57 mb. System cache 270MB
Running all the aqua stuff (biggest hog's being 128 icons & shell32.dll, amongst other dll,s) at bootup I'm seeing
97 mb PF usage. System cache 230Mb
So basically Aquafying adds (only) 40 Mb to your overhead.
My total is 320 Ram (1x256 1x64)
